M. D. Bright

Mark D. Bright (born 1955) is an American comic book and storyboard artist. Often credited as M.D. Bright, and sometimes as Doc Bright (a play on his initials), he is best known for pencilling the Marvel Comics Iron Man story "Armor Wars," the two Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn miniseries for DC Comics, for painting the iconic cover to Marvel Comics' Transformers #5, (featuring the Decepticon Shockwave and the haunting words "Are All Dead" underneath the series title), and for co-creating Quantum and Woody with writer Christopher J. Priest. Mostly out of comics, Bright is now a freelance storyboard artist, although he and Priest reunited for a 5-issue Quantum and Woody miniseries published by the new incarnation of Valiant Comics in 2014-2015, but set in the continuity of the original Quantum and Woody series.

Biography

Bright grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, receiving a B.F.A. from The Pratt Institute in 1974.

His work in comics began in 1978 with a three-page story in House of Mystery #257 (April 1978) His first regular work was providing the art for the Christopher J. Priest (then going by the name "Jim Owsley,") penned Falcon mini-series in 1983. One issue had been completed by artist Paul Smith, and Bright pencilled the remaining three issues.

Mod (Scotland)

A mod is a festival of Scottish Gaelic song, arts and culture. Historically, the Gaelic word mòd (Scottish Gaelic: [mɔːt̪]) refers to any kind of assembly. There are both local mods, and an annual national mod, the Royal National Mòd. Mods are run under the auspices of An Comunn Gàidhealach. The term comes from a Gaelic word for a parliament or congress in common use during the Lordship of the Isles.

A Mod largely takes the form of formal competitions. Choral events (in Gaelic, both solo and choirs), and traditional music including fiddle, bagpipe and folk groups dominate. Spoken word events include children and adult's poetry reading, storytelling and Bible reading, and categories such as Ancient Folk Tale or Humorous Monologue. Children can also present an original drama, and there are competitions in written literature.

Unlike the National Mòd, local mods usually only last a day or two. They attract a much smaller crowd and the only notable social event is the winners' ceilidh. As there are fewer competitions than in the National, this ceilidh is often more like a traditional ceilidh with dancing and guest singers between the winners' performances.

Doctor of Medicine

Doctor of Medicine (MD or DM), or in Latin: Medicinae Doctor, meaning "Teacher of Medicine", is a terminal degree for physicians and surgeons. In countries that follow the tradition of ancient Scotland, it is a first professional graduate degree awarded upon graduation from medical school.It is most commonly used in the United States. In countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom, the title of the equivalent medical degree is instead styled as Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. In those countries, the MD may either be: (1) a research doctorate, akin to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD); (2) an advanced clinical coursework degree, akin to the Master of Surgery; or (3) an honorary or higher doctorate reserved for medical graduates.

History of the medical degree

According to Sir John Bagot Glubb, Syed Faride and S. M. Imamuddin, the first medical schools to issue academic degrees and diplomas were the teaching Bimaristan (Hospitals) of the medieval Islamic world. The first of these institutions was opened in Baghdad during the time of Harun al-Rashid. They then appeared in Egypt from 872 and then in Islamic Spain, Persia and the Maghreb thereafter. Physicians and surgeons at these hospital-universities gave lectures on Medicine to medical students and then a medical diploma or degree was issued to students who were qualified to be practicing physicians.

Shavo Odadjian

Shavarsh "Shavo" Odadjian (Armenian: Շավարշ "Շավո" Օդաջյան; born April 22, 1974) is an Armenian American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music video director/editor, music producer, and artist/painter. He is best known as the bassist, backing vocalist and occasional songwriter of the Grammy Award-winning rock band System of a Down. During the band's hiatus from 2006 to 2010, Odadjian collaborated with Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA on a project called AcHoZeN, which contributed a number of songs to the motion picture Babylon A.D. A compilation album was released in 2015. Odadjian is also credited with the musical scoring of the film, alongside The Rza and Hans Zimmer. He regularly uses a Gibson Thunderbird bass, a Fender Jazz Bass, and an Ibanez BTB bass guitar. He used a Music Man StingRay when he started to play with the band.

Early life

Odadjian was born in Yerevan, Armenian SSR. He moved to Los Angeles at a very young age, and he attended the Alex Pilibos Elementary School in Los Angeles, an Armenian parochial school, along with future bandmates Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian, although they were not acquainted at the time due to a gap in their ages. During his youth, Odadjian has stated that he spent most of his time skateboarding and listening to punk rock and heavy metal music. Among others, he credits Dead Kennedys, KISS, Slayer, The Beatles, and Black Sabbath as his favorite bands, and the most substantial influence on his musical development and career.
