Lynsey de Paul (born Lyndsey Monckton Rubin; 11 June 1948 – 1 October 2014) was an English singer-songwriter. She had chart hits in the UK and US in the 1970s, starting with the single "Sugar Me". She represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest and then had a successful career as a composer, actress and television celebrity.
Lyndsey Monckton Rubin was born to Meta (née de Groot) and Herbert Rubin, a property developer. They were a Jewish family, and had one other child, John (b.1944). De Paul later claimed that she and her brother suffered physical abuse at the hands of their father. She attended South Hampstead High School followed by Hornsey College of Art, now part of Middlesex University.
While attending Hornsey College, and wanting to leave home, she started to design Album covers for artists, which required her to listen to the tracks. From income earned from the designs, she got her first flat, where she turned to song-writing.
And now the band is playing very slow
and once again, I'll get my coat and go
a lonely wallflower waiting by the wall
without the will power to face the music at all
Please, won't somebody dance with me
start up a romance with me
just someone somewhere
someone who dare take a chance with me
I feel so silly in my patent shoes
so many partners but one of them will choose
a lonely wall flower feeling rather tired
feeling undesired
Please, won't somebody dance with me
start up a romance with me
just someone somewhere
someone who dare take a chance with me
May I have the pleasure of this dance?
