Lulu Island
Lulu Island is the name of the largest island in the estuary of the Fraser River. The island makes up most of the City of Richmond, a major suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. However, the eastern tip of Lulu Island, known as Queensborough, is part of the City of New Westminster.
Lulu Island is situated between the two principal arms of the Fraser River estuary across and downstream from the City of New Westminster. The Middle Arm of the Fraser River separates it on the northwest from Sea Island, the site of Vancouver International Airport, which, despite its name, is also part of the City of Richmond. At the western edge of the island lies Sturgeon Bank, a large sandbank which falls off into the Strait of Georgia on its western edge.
History
Lulu Island was named in 1862 by Richard Moody, after Lulu Sweet, a popular showgirl, possibly of Kanaka (Hawaiian) origin, when the island was named (she had bought property there).
The island enjoyed good connections to the new port city of Vancouver thanks to the Lulu Island & Steveston Railway line of the British Columbia Electric Railway, which began at what is today the north end of the Granville Street Bridge. The route of the Lulu Island Railway is today the so-called Arbutus Corridor, which runs west through Kitsilano before turning south to Kerrisdale and Marpole before crossing the North Arm of the Fraser to reach Lulu Island and the City of Richmond.

Al Lulu Island
Al Lulu Island (aka Lulu Island, Arabic: جزيرة اللؤلؤ) is a 1,050-acre (4.2 km2) man-made island off the coast of Abu Dhabi island, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It stretches from the Abu Dhabi Breakwater to the Zayed Sea Port.
Land reclamation was started in 1988 and completed in 1992. After several plans that were subsequently dropped, the island is now being developed by Sorouh Real Estate as a mixed commercial and residential project. Arquitectonica was tasked with the development of the master plan. It was also rumoured that Al Lulu Island was going to be a tourist destination for a Disney theme park during the mid-1990s.
On 1 January 2009, the previous ferry service was abruptly stopped due to unspecified 'renovations' on the island. Access became by private boat only.
Al Lulu Island has been officially closed to the public, its only access now being by private boat, but it has been used by the public anyway. There are nowplans to dramatically redevelop the island, these plans include the construction of a new permanent bridge connecting the island to the mainland, as well as a 400 metres (1,300 ft)+ landmark tower known as Lulu Tower.
