Lulu Town

Lulu Town is a now uninhabited, former settlement on Navassa Island, claimed by both the United States and neighbouring Haiti, in the Caribbean.

Overview

Navassa Island was claimed for the United States on September 19, 1857, by Peter Duncan, an American sea captain, under the Guano Islands Act of August 18, 1856. The modest settlement was created to house both mine workers and supervisors whose goal was the rich deposits of guano found on Navassa. This resource, gathered mainly from the interior of the island, was stored in Lulu town for later shipment to the United States.

Mining operations on Navassa Island were halted in approximately 1900, and the settlement is now uninhabited.

The town lies on Lulu Bay. Its ruggedness prevents boats from landing; such small boats as regularly ply the area are mainly fishing boats from nearby Haiti.

Lulu Press, Inc. is an online print-on-demand, self-publishing and distribution platform. Since its founding in 2002, Lulu has published nearly two million titles by authors in over 225 countries and territories.

The company's founder is Red Hat co-founder Bob Young. Lulu's CEO is Nigel Lee and their headquarters are in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 12, 2015, Michael Mandiberg completed his art project Print Wikipedia and the 7,600 Wikipedia database has been uploaded to Lulu.com and is available for printout.

Products

Lulu.com focuses on both print and digital format books. Printed books are available in multiple formats and sizes including paperback, coil bound, and hardcovers. Books can be printed, in black-and-white or full-color.

In 2009, Lulu.com began publishing and distributing eBooks. Lulu.com also prints and publishes calendars and photobooks.

Process

Authors upload their files. Material is submitted in digital form for publication. Authors can then buy copies of their own book and/or make it available for purchase in the "Lulu Bookstore."

Lulu (Trip Shakespeare album)

Lulu is a 1991 album by the Minneapolis-based rock band Trip Shakespeare, the group's final major-label release.

A polished, melodic album released at the height of the grunge phenomenon, Lulu was met with critical and popular indifference. Describing it as a "melodically complex and romantic pop masterpiece", Allmusic declares:

The album's title track, about an old crush with whom the singer used to see a band, has the refrain, "Do you remember? Do you recall?" Those words are printed in large type on the album's liner notes, with the last phrase altered to "dü you recall"--an allusion to another Minneapolis-based band, Hüsker Dü, whose name is Danish for "do you remember".

Bay (shelving)

A bay is a basic unit of library shelving. Bays are book cases about 3 feet (0.9 m) wide. Bays are stuck together in rows. Items are shelved from the top shelf to the bottom shelf in each bay.

Rows consist of a number of bays, either single-sided or double-sided, connected to each other. The standard length of a row is five to six bays, but it is not uncommon to find rows seven bays wide or even wider. In some countries a row is referred to as a 'stack' or a 'range'.

Bay (chancellor)

Bay, also called Ramesse Khamenteru, (died 1192 BC) was an important Asiatic official in ancient Egypt, who rose to prominence and high office under Seti II Userkheperure Setepenre and later became an influential powerbroker in the closing stages of the 19th Dynasty. He was generally identified with Irsu (alt. Arsu, Iarsu, Yarsu) mentioned in the Great Harris Papyrus, although no contemporary source connects Bay with Irsu.

Bay's importance is emphasized by the fact that he was given permission, possibly by Seti but more probably by Siptah, to construct his own tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings (KV13). His tomb was clearly constructed as part of a triad of tombs, including that of the Pharaoh Siptah and Queen Twosret. This was an unprecedented privilege, the likes of which were rarely accorded to a commoner, let alone a foreigner (though previous exceptions, such as that of Yuya, have occurred). It is possible that Bay was accorded this tomb because he was a relation of Siptah's mother, a Canaanite concubine of Seti II, or perhaps even of Amenmesse. His tomb was later usurped under the Twentieth Dynasty by prince Mentuherkhepshef, a son of Ramesses IX.

93.9 Bay FM

93.9 Bay FM (call sign: 3BAY) is a commercial FM radio station based in Geelong, Victoria. Commencing broadcasting in 1989, the station broadcasts an adult contemporary format.

History

Bay FM was originally licensed as part of a Commonwealth Government plan to increase the diversity of radio services in regional centres. The station's launch date is disputed - the Australian Communications and Media Authority, which oversees licensing of radio services in Australia, list the station's launch date as 10 December 1989, however some listeners suggest that broadcasts began two days earlier on 8 December.

Just before the official launch of the station, the parent company of Bay FM purchased the flagging 3XY in nearby Melbourne, from the then owners of 2SM Sydney. Once Bay FM commenced broadcasting, 3XY briefly simulcasted the station overnight, retaining its soft rock format during the day. However, once new studios in Corio Bay were completed, Bay FM and 3XY began full-time simulcasting, 3XY breaking only for exclusive Australian Football League coverage. After a period of 12 months, the then-Australian Broadcasting Authority demanded the two stations begin separate programming. While the two stations remained in their Corio studios, Bay FM relaunched with an easy listening format. In 1991, 3XY was sold to AWA Limited, owners of 2CH Sydney, and shut down later that year.
