Abandoned (TV series)

Abandoned is an American Reality television series by Picture Shack Entertainment that premiered on the National Geographic Channel on August 22, 2012. It was preceded by a pilot episode that aired on December 30, 2011.

The series follows three men who make a living by scavenging abandoned buildings across America.

Premise

Jay Chaikin, owner of "Reclaimed Relics", travels around America with his team, Dan Graham and Mark Pakenas, scouring abandoned buildings for relics of America's history that they can refurbish and sell.

Abandoned (album)

Abandoned is the fourth studio album by American melodic hardcore band Defeater. Abandoned is a concept album, following the story of the Catholic priest in the song "Cowardice" from Travels. This album is Defeater's first release with Epitaph Records.<ref name "bandcamp">"Defeater". Bandcamp. Retrieved 2015-10-19. </ref> They went on tour in support of the album, supported by Four Year Strong, Expire, Superheaven, Speak Low If You Speak Love, My Iron Lung, and Elder Brother. Derek Archambault was quoted, "[Abandoned] is the overall way that this character feels, be it by this god that he never really believed in, but took a leap for, to pay back this man that saved his life, or be it self-inflicted, where he leaves the woman he loves but takes it out on himself emotionally and through drug abuse. The title itself is the overall feeling of the record." Abandoned was written and recorded after Archambault underwent hip surgery. Archambault used the time to "redouble his connection with his own writing, leaving him clear to truly inhabit what he calls his own Glass family—after the famous J.D. Salinger characters."

Abandoned (2001 film)

Abandoned (Hungarian: Torzók) is a 2001 Hungarian film directed by Arpád Sopsits. It was Hungary's submission to the 74th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee.

Plot

Abandoned at an orphanage by his recently divorced father, Aron endures a life full of cruelty and despair, punctuated by beating from the orphanage staff and ridicule from the other boys. His only friend is his classmate Attila, who helps him discover love and gives him strength to fight back.

Sigh (film)

Sigh is a 2000 Chinese drama film directed by Feng Xiaogang, written by Wang Shuo, starring Zhang Guoli, Liu Bei, Xu Fan and Fu Biao. Like most of Feng's films, the film is set mostly in Beijing.

Plot

Liang Yazhou (Zhang) is a successful, middle-aged TV screenwriter from Beijing. While in Hainan working on a new script, Liu Dawei (Fu) assigns young and beautiful Li Xiaodan (Liu) to him as an assistant. Yazhou and Xiaodan are mutually attracted to each other, but Yazhou is already married to Song Xiaoying (Xu), with whom he has a daughter. To break off the connection, he changes his plans and returns to Beijing. However, as soon as Yazhou and Xiaoying return to Beijing, they begin having an affair.

When Xiaoying finds out about Yazhou's affair, she is furious and initially demands a divorce. Relations between Yazhou and Xiaoying become extremely strained. They separate, and Xiaoying eventually accepts Yazhou's affair for the sake of their young daughter Yueyue. Despite Xiaoying's tolerance, Yazhou remains caught between the two women, on one hand being spoiled by Xiaodan and, on the other, being an attentive father in front of Xiaoying and Yueyue. Even with Xiaodan demanding marriage, Yazhou finds himself unable to divorce his wife, due to the harmful impact their separation has already had on Yueyue.

Lucid (programming language)

Lucid is a dataflow programming language. It is designed to experiment with non-von Neumann programming models. It was designed by Bill Wadge and Ed Ashcroft and described in the book Lucid, the Dataflow Programming Language.

Model

Lucid uses a demand-driven model for data computation. Each statement can be understood as an equation defining a network of processors and communication lines between them through which data flows. Each variable is an infinite stream of values and every function is a filter or a transformer. Iteration is simulated by 'current' values and 'fby' (read as 'followed by') operator allowing composition of streams.

Lucid is based on an algebra of histories, a history being an infinite sequence of data items. Operationally, a history can be thought of as a record of the changing values of a variable, history operations such as first and next can be understood in ways suggested by their names. Lucid was originally conceived as a kind of very disciplined, mathematically pure, single-assignment language, in which verification would be very much simplified. However, the dataflow interpretation has been a very important influence on the direction in which Lucid has evolved.

Lucid (album)

Lucid is the fifth studio album by American R&B singer Lyfe Jennings. The album was released on October 8, 2013, by Mass Appeal Entertainment. On May 8, 2013, the album's first single "Boomerang" was released. On July 25, 2013, the music video was released for "Boomerang".

Critical response

Lucid was met with a generally positive reviews from music critics. Andy Kellman of AllMusic gave the album three out of four stars, saying "Jennings draws character sketches, spins cautionary tales—as someone still growing, learning from his mistakes—and largely sticks to the type of mature R&B that his listeners don't get from anyone else. He briefly breaks from the norm with "Rock," a classy but contemporary steppers groove that's one of his best songs. Despite a mostly new cast of collaborators—including TGT associate Brandon Hodge and producer/songwriter Lashaunda "Babygirl" Carr—Lucid is a natural progression for a veteran artist who seems to have plenty left to express."
