The lovebug, Plecia nearctica, is a member of the family of march flies. It is also known as the honeymoon fly, kissingbug, or double-headed bug. The adult is a small, flying insect common to parts of Central America and the southeastern United States, especially along the Gulf Coast. During and after mating, adult pairs remain coupled, even in flight, for up to several days.
The lovebug was first described in 1940 by D. E. Hardy, but was seen in Louisiana as early as 1911. At that time, he reported the incidence of lovebugs to be widespread, but most common in Texas, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. However, by the end of the 20th century the species had spread heavily to all areas bordering the Gulf of Mexico, as well as Georgia and South Carolina. L. A. Hetrick, writing in 1970, found the bug was also widespread in central and northern Florida and described its flights as reaching altitudes of 300 to 450 metres (980 to 1,480 ft) and extending several kilometers over the Gulf. In 2006, it was reported as far north as Wilmington, North Carolina.
"Love Bug", also spelled "Lovebug," is a single by American country music artist George Jones. Jones' version, which also features a young Johnny Paycheck on backup vocals and draws heavily from the Bakersfield sound as popularized by Buck Owens, reached #6 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1965.
By 1965, one of the few other country singers who was as hot as Jones on the country charts was Buck Owens, who had helped establish Bakersfield as an alternative to Nashville as a country music center. The Bakersfield sound was seen as having more bite than the more tepid Nashville sound, and a rivalry soon sprouted; in the 2001 documentary series Lost Highway music journalist Chet Flippo states, "I think that Nashville felt that Bakersfield was a bad smell that they wished would go away. It really had nothing to do with the scene in Nashville but country radio loved that music, so there was a certain co-existence that had to go on." This rivalry extended to Jones and Owens; although they would always remain friends, during the occasions in which they toured together in the early days they often argued about who would close the show, with Jones recalling in his autobiography I Lived to Tell It All that he "was resentful because Buck's home in Bakersfield did not make him part of the Nashville family."
"Lovebug" is a song by the American teen pop band the Jonas Brothers It was released as the second official single off their third studio album, A Little Bit Longer, on September 30, 2008. Lyrically, "Lovebug" is about being smitten by girl for the first time and attracting feelings for said girl from that moment. A music video was released to accompany the single and is a period piece romance that was inspired by The Notebook.
The song was written while on tour with Miley Cyrus on her Best of Both Worlds Tour. Nick said that "we were in the hotel room and sat down that night and wrote it in about 15 or 20 minutes." The song first premiered at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards when the Jonas Brothers performed it at the back lot of Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California.
Disney Channel featured the world premiere of the "Lovebug" music video on October 19, 2008 (8:55 p.m., ET/PT). An exclusive look at the making of the video was presented throughout the evening (8:00- 9:00 p.m., ET/PT) during episodes of Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Well I was ruling the roost
Had all the chicks to myself
And suddenly it happened
A funny little feeling I felt
Well I tried to outrun it
But it finally caught up with me
Tell me how can I run
From something I can't see
Oh that teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
Nobody's ever seen it
But it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's the little itty, bitty, teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
Well I always thought that
I had me a pretty good style
But I lost that race
By a good old country mile
With my head held way up high
And it fooled me, hit me
Really took me by surprise
Oh that teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
Nobody's ever seen it
But it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's the little itty, bitty, teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
Oh that teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
Nobody's ever seen it
But it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's the little itty, bitty, teenie, weenie thing
They call the lovebug
It's the little itty, bitty, teenie, weenie thing
