"Love Hurts"
Song by The Everly Brothers from the album A Date with The Everly Brothers
Released 1961
Recorded July 1960
Genre Rock, close harmony
Length 2:22
Label Warner Bros.
Writer Boudleaux Bryant

"Love Hurts" is the name of a song, written and composed by Boudleaux Bryant. First recorded by The Everly Brothers in July 1960, the song is also well known from a 1975 international hit version by the rock band Nazareth and in the UK by a top 5 hit in 1975 by Jim Capaldi.

The song was introduced in December 1960 as an album track on A Date with The Everly Brothers, but was never released as a single (A-side or B-side) by the Everlys. The first hit version of the song was by Roy Orbison, who earned Australian radio play, hitting the Top Five of that country's singles charts in 1961. A recording by Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons was included on Parsons' posthumously released Grievous Angel album. After Parsons' 1973 death, Harris made the song a staple of her repertoire, and has included it in her concert set lists from the 1970s to the present. Harris has since re-recorded the song twice.

The most successful recording of the song was by hard rock band Nazareth, who took the song to the U.S. Top 10 in 1975 and hit number one in Norway and the Netherlands. In the UK the most successful version of the song was by former Traffic member Jim Capaldi, who took it to number four in the charts in November 1975 during a 11-week run. The song was also covered by Cher in 1975 for her album Stars. Cher re-recorded the song in 1991 for her album of the same name.

Roy Orbison covered "Love Hurts" in 1961 and issued it as the B-side to "Running Scared". While "Running Scared" was an international hit, the B-side only picked up significant airplay in Australia. Consequently, chart figures for Australia show "Running Scared"/"Love Hurts" as a double A-Side, both sides peaking at #5. This makes Orbison's recording of "Love Hurts" the first version to be a hit.

Performed as a rock ballad, the Nazareth version was the most popular version of the song and the only rendition of "Love Hurts" to become a hit single in the United States, reaching #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1976. As part of the "Hot Tracks (EP)" it also reached #15 in the UK in 1977.[6] Nazareth's version was an international hit (reaching #8 in the US, #15 in the UK, and #1 in Canada, South Africa and Norway), and remains the best-known recording of the song. The Nazareth single was so successful in Norway that it charted for 61 weeks on the Norwegian charts (VG-lista Top 10), including 14 weeks at #1, making it the top single of all time in that country.[7]

A later recording by Nazareth, featuring the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, peaked at #89 in Germany.

The lyrics of the song remained unchanged on all versions up until Nazareth's 1975 recording, where the original line "love is like a stove/it burns you when it's hot" was changed to "love is like a flame/it burns you when it's hot". The Nazareth track has been featured in the movies Dazed and Confused, Detroit Rock City, Together, and Halloween, among others. It was edited for use in a late-'90s Gatorade TV commercial. Other companies to have used the song in advertising include Southwest Airlines, Molson, Nissan (for the Altima) and Toyota in Australia.

Love Hurts (1991 film)

Love Hurts is a comedy-drama film, released in late 1990 in the United Kingdom and 1991 in the United States. Co-produced and directed by Bud Yorkin, it stars Jeff Daniels, Cynthia Sikes, Cloris Leachman, Judith Ivey and John Mahoney.

Daniels plays a womanizer who goes home to Pennsylvania for a wedding and finds his past catching up with him.

The film has been released on DVD by Lions Gate Home Entertainment as a double feature with You Can't Hurry Love.

Plot

Paul Weaver (Jeff Daniels) is accustomed to playing around on his wife Nancy (Cynthia Sikes) from his baseball-playing days. When divorce papers are filed against him, Paul decides to travel to Pennsylvania and attend his sister's wedding. But Nancy and his two children are both there, making the situation uncomfortable for everyone.

  • Judith Ivey as Susan Volcheck
  • Cloris Leachman as Ruth Weaver
  • John Mahoney as Boomer
  • Cynthia Sikes as Nancy Weaver
  • Annabelle Weenick as Miriam Whipkey

  • House (season 1)

The first season of House premiered November 16, 2004 and ended May 25, 2005. The season followed Dr. House and his team as they solve a medical case each episode. The season's sub-plot revolved around billionaire Edward Vogler making a $100 million donation to the hospital. Through this donation, Vogler became the new chairman of the board of PPTH, however, seeing House and his team as a waste of time and resources, he decreases their payment, eventually forcing House to fire one of his team members.

Chi McBride joined the cast as Vogler in five episodes of the show. His character was brought in after Universal Studios president Jeff Zucker threatened that the season would be cut short by six episodes if a boss-character would not be added. While there were possibilities of the character returning, he was generally disliked by viewers and critics and therefore not brought back into the show.Sela Ward, who would return as the main recurring character of season two, appeared in the final two episodes as Stacy Warner, House's former girlfriend.

    Katmandu (song)

"Katmandu" is a song written and recorded by American rock artist Bob Seger. It was initially released on his 1975 studio album Beautiful Loser, which became the first of ten consecutive platinum albums for Seger. The song was later featured on his live album Live Bullet. The single edit reached number 43 on the US Top 40, becoming Seger's most successful single since "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man". The song was featured in the soundtrack to the 1985 film Mask starring Cher and Eric Stoltz. The song was also featured as a part of the soundtrack in the 16th episode of the television series Freaks and Geeks. It also appeared in the tenth episode on the eighth season of the television series Supernatural.

    Content

The song refers to the city Kathmandu, the capital of the republic of Nepal, although there is no evidence that Seger ever actually went to Katmandu. After the Nepali earthquake of 2015, Seger said his "heart went out" to the city.

(25% of the couples in this country

[Ice Cube] (Listen to the hit)
    (That is a fact)
[Ice Cube] (Listen to the hit)
    [VERSE 1: The Poetess]
Growin up as a kid I never understood the things my dad did
Like hittin my mother, me and my brother hid
In the parlor from the chaos, the cryin and the cussin
    The fightin and the fussin
I used to go to bed holdin my ears tight
Filled with fear when I hear moms and pops fight
I never quite understood what the reasons were
How could he love my mother if he kept on hittin her?
I don't know, but what I do know is this
Love hurts when it's comin from the throw of a fist
And the list goes on from the mental to the physical
Use of verbal abuse, beatdowns, it ain't cool
It's bad enough we got it rough in society
Opression and poverty, no need to be fightin e-
ach other, a brother hits a sister, and he's a bigger nigga
He ain't nothin if he gotta hit, pick a
Innocent victim three times smaller in size
Head honcho, macho in whose eyes?
Only a fool tries abuse to utilize
Phyisical force to control, hurt, brutalize
Time for change, to rearrange the chain of thought
Unball your fist and think of the pain was brought
To the hearts of your brother or your sis
Love hurts when it's comin from the fist
    [Def Jef]
Now I want you to think of six women that's close to you
And I want you to think if somebody was beatin on em
    What would you do?
    [VERSE 2: Def Jef]
I wish my step pop would stop hittin on moms
She got bruises on her arm from protectin her face from harm
Bein done he looks at me and says, "What you're seein, son
    Is me disciplinin my woman
You're gonna hate me for the rest of your life
    But this is my wife"
And I'm thinkin I wanna stab him with a steak knife
Too little to interfere, I wish he would disappear
But he won't, so I put the pillow over my ear in fear
Dreamin when I get to be a man I'ma stand up to him
If I see him hit her again I'ma do him
I encourage her to go, she says, "No
    I love him, I stay"
"Mom, what you see in that idiot anyway?
He beats you and mistreats you
    Daddy wouldn't do that"
But she said: "Your daddy did it too"
Ain't that much love in the world to be gettin bruised for
Used, abused or even singin the blues for
He's addicted to inflictin abuse, he said he'll quit
If he's the one with the habit, then why you always takin the hit?
A weak later the same shit - I doubt it
I'm grown now, mommy, don't even worry about it
(In 20% of child abuse cases a spouse will be involved in)
    [VERSE 3: The Poetess]
I was twelve years old when daddy started to get rough
Puff in one hand, the other holdin a glass of that 80 proof stuff
He never got enough, I thought he was tough, but it was all a bluff
I tried to understand and got verbally beat down
But I thought one day he would come around
But man, oh man, was I mistaken
Nothing's right in his life and the abuse I was takin
I was accused of things I never thought of
    Good grace got no praise
But I got a lotta negative words thrown in my heart like a dart
    With the point of steel
Killin me softly at his will
The big one came when I got the blame for
Not bein the joy of a boy that he aimed for
One day I came home, he was sittin in the chair by the front do'
    Just waitin to let go
(Where you been all night, out hoein?)
He didn't raise, rolled up in his gut, I got a blow
And that was it, the last hit, he'll ever do
The pearl handle was popped and cocked and it blew
The only thing on my mind was payback, let's say that
I've put an end to that madness and pray that
I can overcome what mentally dad did well
While I count the days in my padded cell
(Several women a day are killed by ah, battering)
[Ice Cube] (Listen to the hit)
    [VERSE 4: Kool G. Rap]
Does he love her or does he hate her?
That's what I'm thinkin as I look at mommy hooked up to a respirator
    It started with a smack
And that smack became a punch and then a kick and then a broken back
    But mommy never dropped dime
Now she's damn near blind, yo, what the hell is on my pop's mind?
I feel like gettin daddy done in
And put like one in his gun and pull the trigger and start runnin
Man, I see the walls turnin red
I'm gettin kinda fed so instead of the lead, how bout a burnin bed?
In order for my mother to last
So while he's laid up, straight up, I be puttin some gas on his ass
Blow him up like a grenade
And this is for all the times my mother used to wear shades
Tryin to cover the damage he did her
So when that fire's on your ass you remember how you hit her
    [The Poetess]
This is a special dedication for my sister Dee
and all the sisters out there that have been physically and mentally abused
I like to send a special thanks to Def Jef
    And my sister Almighty
and definitely Mister Kool G. Rap
