Chris Smith (footballer, born 1988)

Chris "Junior" Smith (born 31 August 1988 in Glasgow) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a defender, and currently plays for Scottish League Two side Clyde.

Smith started his career in the youth teams of Partick Thistle and Rangers before making his first senior appearances in the Scottish Football League with Greenock Morton. He also played for Dumbarton and Ayr United, Stirling Albion and had a short spell at Falkirk.

Career

Rangers

Smith began his footballing career as a youth at Partick Thistle as a YTS, before moving on to SPL side Rangers. Chris was released by Rangers under 19s at the end of the 2007–08 season.

Morton

Smith went on trial at Greenock Morton and played in several trial matches, before he was eventually signed on 5 September 2008.

Smith made his league debut against QOS on 13 September 2008, at Palmerston Park, Dumfries, and his full debut the week previously in the Challenge Cup quarter-final against the same opposition. In his first four league games, he played as the left-back in a back four, alongside Ryan Harding, Dominic Shimmin and Alex Walker.

Chris Smith (tight end)

Christopher Smith (born 1966) is a former American football player. He grew up in La Canada, California, and began his collegiate career at the University of Arizona. After redshirting during his freshman year, Smith transferred to Brigham Young University. He played at the tight end position for the BYU Cougars football team from 1987 to 1990 and was a member of the 1990 team coached by LaVell Edwards that compiled a 10–3 record and won the Western Athletic Conference championship. With Ty Detmer as his quarterback, Smith set an NCAA tight end record with 1,156 receiving yards; Smith's record stood until 2005 when it was broken by Tulsa's Garrett Mills. Smith was voted an All-American by the Sporting News in 1989 and was also a consensus first-team selection to the 1990 College Football All-America Team.

Smith was drafted by Cincinnati Bengals in the 1991 NFL draft, round 10, 295th.

Chris Smith (defensive end)

Chris Smith (born February 11, 1992) is an American football defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arkansas.

Early years

Smith attended West Rowan High School in Mount Ulla, North Carolina. As a senior he had 98 tackles and 16.5 sacks.

College career

As a true freshman in 2010, Smith played in six games, recording three tackles. As a sophomore in 2011, he played in 13 games with three starts. He had 31 tackles and 3.5 sacks. As a junior in 2012, he started all 12 games, recording 52 tackles and 9.5 sacks. As a senior in 2013 he had 37 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 12 games.

As a senior in 2013, Smith was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection.

Professional career

Jacksonville Jaguars

Smith was selected 159th overall in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

He was released by the Jaguars on September 13, 2014. Two days later, he was then signed to their practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on October 20.
