Lot (river)

The Lot, pronounced: [lɔt], originally the Olt (Occitan: Òlt; Latin: Oltis), is a river in France, right tributary of the Garonne. It rises in the Cévennes, flowing west through Quercy, where it flows into the Garonne near Aiguillon, a total distance of 481 kilometres (299 mi). It gives its name to the Lot département.

The Lot is prone to flooding in the winter and spring.

History

The river was used for transport as early as the 12th century when 11 flash locks were installed between Penne-d'Agenais and Fumel. A reliable route was not provided until the 17th century when Jean-Baptiste Colbert ordered new works. By 1776, the river had 12 locks. New construction was begun in 1835 for some 297 kilometres (185 mi) and 76 locks, connecting Le Moulin d'Olt at Entraygues to the Garonne at Nicole. Four tunnels were included at this time with lengths from 139 to 364 metres (456 to 1,194 ft). Railway competition caused the abandonment of Lot navigation in 1926. Over the next 60 years, there were no repairs or maintenance of the canal. Repairs in the Lower Lot began in the end of the 1990s.

River (Barking and Dagenham ward)

River ward is a political division returning three Councillors to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Elected representation is by Inder Singh Jamu, Liam Smith, and Patricia Twomey, all of the Labour Party (UK).

Liberman (album)

Liberman is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton, released on October 23, 2015, through Dine Alone Records. It is the follow up to Carlton's 2011 album Rabbits on the Run and marks her first release since signing with Dine Alone Records. The title of the album comes from an oil painting made by Carlton's late grandfather, whose given surname was Liberman.

Background and writing

Following the 2011 release Rabbits on the Run, Carlton took time off to get married, start a family and write another album. She tells CBS News that these changes in her life are reflected in Liberman's songs and that she "wanted the whole album to feel like an escape type of album, where you put it on and you feel like you're in this dreamy state."

To avoid preconceived notions, demos recorded were sent to Dine Alone Records without Carlton's name attached. Label president Joel Carriere recalls hearing the demos and tells The Toronto Star, "The songs were amazing, it was atmospheric, it kind of fit into what we’re all into ... and we never would have guessed it was Vanessa Carlton because her voice has developed so much since her pop songs 14 years ago and the songwriting had obviously changed. We were, like: 'Yeah, we want to do this. But what is it we’re doing?'"

River (AKB48 song)

"River" is the 14th major single by the Japanese idol group AKB48, released on 21 October 2009. It was the first AKB48's single to top the Oricon weekly singles chart, having sold 179,000 copies in its first week. Thus it became the group's best selling single, beating "Namida Surprise!", which by then had sold 144,000 copies in 18 weeks.

The single was released in two versions: Regular Edition (通常盤) (CD+DVD, catalog number KIZM-43/4); and Theater Edition (劇場盤) (CD only, catalog number NMAX-1087). The bonuses for the first-press limited edition included a handshake event ticket for various locations (Sendai, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Sapporo, Tokyo), as well as a voting card for the AKB48 Request Hour Set List Best 100 2010. On the theater edition, the bonuses included a handshake event ticket (Tokyo Big Sight, SKE48 Theater), a special performance ticket lottery (live stage performances, karaoke competition, AKB meeting), and a random member photo.

King Lot

Lot or Loth /ˈlɒt/ is the eponymous king of Lothian in the Arthurian legend. He is best known as the father of Sir Gawain. Such a ruler first appeared late in the 1st millennium's hagiographical material concerning Saint Kentigern (also known as Saint Mungo), which feature a Leudonus, king of Leudonia, a Latin name for Lothian. In the 12th century, Geoffrey of Monmouth adapted this to Lot, king of Lothian, in his influential chronicle Historia Regum Britanniae, portraying him as King Arthur's brother-in-law and ally. In the wake of Geoffrey's writings, Lot appeared regularly in later romance.

Lot chiefly figures as king of Lothian, but in other sources he also rules Orkney and sometimes Norway. He is generally depicted as the husband of Arthur's sister or half-sister, variously named Anna or Morgause. The names and number of his children vary depending on the source, but the later romance tradition gives him the sons Gawain, Agravain, Gaheris, Gareth, and Mordred.

Lot (/lɒt/; Hebrew: לוֹט, Modern Lot, Tiberian Lôṭ ; "veil" or "covering") is a person mentioned in the biblical Book of Genesis chapters 11–14 and 19. Notable episodes in his life include his travels with his uncle Abram (Abraham), his flight from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, during which Lot's wife became a pillar of salt, and the seduction by his daughters so that they could bear children.

Christians revere Lot as a righteous man of God. According to the Bible, Jesus is a descendant of Lot through David's great-grandmother Ruth, who is descended from Moab, Lot's son through one of his daughters.

Lot and his father Haran were born and raised in Ur of the Chaldees (Genesis 11:28,31) in the region of Sumeria on the Euphrates River of lower Mesopotamia, roughly four thousand years ago. Haran died in that land before his father Terah. (Genesis 11:28)

Genesis 11:26-32 gives the "generations of Terah", Lot's grandfather, who arranged for their large family to set a course for Canaan where they could reestablish a new home. Among the family members that Lot travelled with was his uncle Abram, (later called Abraham), one of the three patriarchs of Israel.
