Snapshot (film)

Snapshot (released in the US as The Day After Halloween and One More Minute) is a 1979 Australian thriller film. It was the first feature directed by Simon Wincer.

Plot

A young hairdresser, Angela, is lured into modelling by a bitchy model, Madeline, who talks her into stripping for a photo shoot. She starts to be stalked by a mysterious assailant. Her ex-boyfriend Daryl is possessive and creepy, Madeline's husband Elmer wants to photograph her naked and her mother robs her. In the end Elmer is burnt to death, Daryl is run down by his own Mr Whippy van, and Madeline turns out to be the driver. Angela leaves with her. All is well.

Ginnane had originally intended to make a film after Patrick called Centrefold, based on a script by Chris Fitchett, and raised money for it. He showed it to TV director Simon Wincer who only liked the fact the script was set in the modelling world and there was a Mr Whippy Van. Ginnane then commissioned Everett de Roche to write a new screenplay. Wincer says he and de Roche re-wrote it in three weeks, and the film took eleven weeks from the first day of shooting until sitting down with the release print.

Snapshot (The Strypes album)

Snapshot is the debut studio album by Irish rock band The Strypes, released on September 9, 2013. The album was produced by highly-acclaimed record producer Chris Thomas at Yellow Fish Studios, England. The title of the album derives from the band's intention while recording the album to create a "snapshot" of their live set that got them noticed in the first place.

The album contains singles "Blue Collar Jane", "Hometown Girls", "What a Shame", "Mystery Man" and "You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover".

Critical reception

The album has received positive to mixed reviews. The Independent raved the album as "a scintillating shot of roughneck rhythm and blues," by giving it a 4/5 star review. Simon Harper of Clash Magazine said that "with such infectious energy and lyrics capturing the timeless topics of youth, really: what's not to like? Harmonica sales will soar". Mojo also gave the album a rave review, stating that "It's nigh on impossible not to succumb to the band's hurtling energy and panache" and that "only a corpse wouldn't holler 'go, cats, go!'"

Sally (1925 film)

Sally is a 1925 silent romantic comedy film starring Colleen Moore. The film was directed by Alfred E. Green, produced by Moore's husband John McCormick (1893–1961), and based on the musical Sally written by Guy Bolton, Clifford Grey, and adapted to film by June Mathis. The film was based on a Florenz Ziegfeld production written specifically for Marilyn Miller that opened on December 21, 1920 at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway. It ran for 570 performances.

During the production of this film, Colleen met a young gag man who worked for Alfred Green who billed himself as a “comedy constructor,” named Mervyn LeRoy. They would become good friends and LeRoy would eventually direct Colleen in her film Oh, Kay!.

Preservation status

The film is considered lost, but a short sequence of color film may have been discovered, as reported by Ron Hutchinson of the Vitaphone project: "Malcolm Billingsley has discovered a previously unknown cache of 45- 75 second 35mm Technicolor nitrate spools with previously lost color scenes from ON WITH THE SHOW, SHOW OF SHOWS , SALLY and GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY." / post on Nitrateville discussion board.

Sally Carrera

In the Pixar computer animated film Cars, Sally Carrera is Radiator Springs's town attorney and protagonist Lightning McQueen's love interest. She is voiced by Bonnie Hunt.

Background

In the film, Sally owns the Cozy Cone Motel, a newly refurbished tourist court similar in design to the Wigwam Motels but with each individual motel room constructed as an oversized traffic cone. She has cones all around her shop, inside and out; even the lamps, planters and alarm clocks follow the theme. Neon lighting at the Cozy Cone, one of the first historic restoration efforts in Radiator Springs, displays the "100% Refrigerated Air" slogan of Tucumcari's historic US 66 Blue Swallow Motel.

She once was a successful California lawyer but, unhappy, chose to leave the state to settle in the small U.S. Route 66 town.

Sally is a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera on a slightly-shortened wheelbase and has a pinstripe tattoo on her back. Pixar had initially wanted a classic Porsche for the rôle, but were convinced by Bob Carlson at Porsche to make her the latest model. Pixar's animators, modellers and sound crews obtained access to real Porsche 911-series vehicles to meticulously create an animated Sally who looks, moves and responds in a similar manner to the original automobile.

Sally (band)

Sally (styled as sally) is an American Indie rock band from Chicago, Illinois.

Biography

Sally was formed in 2003 by Charlie Deets and Melissa Neis. Their friend, Jeff Shafar later joined the band on drums. Neither Melissa nor Jeff had any formal training on their respective instruments prior to the band's formation.

Recording their first album at Gravity Studios in Chicago, Illinois, the band met Mark Berlin, an engineer who later joined the band as a second guitarist.

After a series of drummer changes and EPs, the band recorded their second full length album with Nick Smalkowski on drums called "Long Live the New Flesh," released on Paribus Records in June 2007.

Most of their artwork has been done by Melissa Neis and the majority of their recordings by Mark Berlin.

The band apparently broke up in November 2007 when they published a lengthy letter of explanation on their Myspace blog. They played a final show at The Empty Bottle in Chicago on November 19, 2007 minus their drummer Nick Smalkowski. Mostly using drum machines and playing acoustic, the band ended by playing 'racquetball' from their first album with Deric Criss (Aleks and the Drummer) playing drums.
