Lofer is a market town in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg (state) in Austria. With the roaring Saalach river running through the town it is a popular white water destination during the summer, and in the winter months its newly extended 58 km of groomed ski runs has made it a firm favourite with families seeking a taste of traditional unspoilt Austria.
It is located in the valley of the Saalach river.
European route E641, which connects Wörgl with Salzburg, passes through Lofer.
The local businesses are agriculture and tourism. Lofer attracts many family oriented ski parties. The season is late December - early March. 37 km away is the large resort of Kitzbühel.
Parts of the film "Where Eagles Dare" were filmed in Lofer.
