High fidelity

High fidelity—or hi-fi or hifi—reproduction is a term used by home stereo listeners and home audio enthusiasts to refer to high-quality reproduction of sound to distinguish it from the poorer quality sound produced by inexpensive audio equipment, or the inferior quality of sound reproduction that can be heard in recordings made until the late 1940s. Ideally, high-fidelity equipment has minimal amounts of noise and distortion and an accurate frequency response.

History

Bell Laboratories began experimenting with wider-range of recording techniques in the early 1930s. Performances by Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra were recorded in 1931 and 1932 using telephone lines between the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the labs in New Jersey. Some multi-track recordings were made on optical sound film, which led to new advances used primarily by MGM (as early as 1937) and Twentieth Century Fox (as early as 1941). RCA Victor began recording performances by several orchestras on optical sound around 1941, resulting in higher-fidelity masters for 78-rpm discs.

Hi-Fi is a Russian pop dance group established in 1998 founded by composer Pavel Esenin and songwriter and producer Eric Chanturia. The concept of group was the male leader and two supportive dancers-performers till 2006, when Katya(Ekaterina) Lee joined the group.

Katya started her career in the band with solo song Vzletai. From then on female and male vocals had equal parts. When Katya Lee left, the group went back to the old concept of the male singing. In 2009 Mitya Fomin left the group and started solo career. Later in 2010 Katya Lee left the group and joined another popular girls band Fabrika. The group has had many hits on the Russian charts and has won "Best Dance Group" at the Russian television "Муз-ТВ" in 2005.

534 is the fourth studio album by rapper Memphis Bleek. It was Released by Roc-A-Fella Records on May 17, 2005. The album contains 14 songs, including the hit single "Like That" produced by Swizz Beatz. A single by Bleek's mentor and childhood friend Jay-Z entitled "Dear Summer" was produced by Just Blaze. Other guests include Young Gunz, M.O.P., and the first ever appearance from Rihanna.

The title is a reference to the address of Marcy Houses, 534 Flushing Ave., where Bleek and Jay-Z grew up.

Monkey Business (album)

Monkey Business is the fourth studio album by American hip hop group, The Black Eyed Peas. It was released on May 25, 2005, by the will.i.am Music Group and A&M Records. It was recorded in "two and three-month spurts" throughout 2004 while the group was on tour.

The album was certified three times Platinum by the RIAA in the U.S. and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. The Canadian Recording Industry Association (or CRIA) has certified Monkey Business 6x Platinum, with sales of over 600,000 copies. The Australian Recording Industry Association (or ARIA) has also certified Monkey Business 6x Platinum, denoting sales of over 420,000 copies. The album's tracks earned the group four 2006 Grammy Award nominations and they also won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Don't Phunk with My Heart". According to IFPI, over 2 million copies have been sold in Europe.

Critical reception

Initial critical response to Monkey Business was mixed to negative. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received an average score of 48, based on 20 reviews. The most favourable review was Robert Christgau's, who gave the album a 3-star honorable mention, saying: "What all pop might be—so much brighter and kinder than it is".
