Lifted (2006 film)

Lifted is a 2006 Pixar computer-animated short film directed by Gary Rydstrom. This is the first film directed by Rydstrom, a seven-time Academy Award winning sound editor and mixer, and the first produced by Katherine Sarafian, who went on to produce Pixar's Brave released in 2012.

The short premiered on October 12, 2006, at the 42nd Chicago International Film Festival at Columbia College, and was released theatrically and on home media with Pixar's Ratatouille (June 29, 2007).

Plot

A young alien, Stu, is inside a spacecraft taking an examination in alien abduction. He must snatch a sleeping farmer named Ernie under the watchful eye of his impassive examiner, a gelatinous blob named Mr. B. Working from memory, Stu is expected to use an array of thousands of identical unlabeled toggle switches for this purpose; Mr. B's stoic expression gives no hints of which ones to use.

Stu's hesitant flicks of the switches turn out to be wrong, causing Ernie to bump into the walls and ceiling, albeit without waking him up. As Stu grows increasingly frustrated, Stu yells and swipes randomly at the array. Ernie bounces randomly around the room like a pinball, knocking over the furniture in the process but remaining asleep. Eventually, after checking his notes, Stu does succeed in maneuvering Ernie out the window and up into the ship, but he shuts off the tractor beam without closing the cargo hatch. As Ernie plummets toward the ground, Mr. B takes over and catches him, then works the switches with incredible speed to put him back in his bed and clean up the mess created by Stu.

Lifted (CDB album)

Lifted is an album by Australian R&B and dance group CDB released in 1997. It debuted and peaked at No. 45 on the Australia charts. It generated 4 hit singles, Good Times, Back Then, Let it Whip and So Badd.

Lifted is a film directed by Lexi Alexander. It premiered at the Feel Good Film Festival on August 14, 2010, and was released straight-to-DVD in 2011.

Summary

Henry Matthews (Uriah Shelton) lives in a small town in Alabama with his parents, William (Dash Mihok) and Lisa (Nicki Aycox). His father is a garage mechanic, but is also in the Reserves, while his mother is unemployed, but goes to group-therapy sessions for a drug addiction that she had dropped one year and four months ago. Henry is a middle-schooler, and deals with bullies after school, forcing him to eventually take refuge in the Baptist Church where Henry meets Pastor John (Ruben Studdard). Pastor John takes a liking to Henry when they begin to play worship music on the church's piano, and discovers Henry is a very talented singer. Pastor John gives Henry a flyer for the Alabama Teen Star Quest, a singing competition in Birmingham.

Gemini (Portuguese band)

Gemini was a Portuguese band from the 1970s. The members were Fatima Padinha, Teresa Miguel, Tozé Brito and Mike Sergeant.

In 1977 they participated in the Portuguese national final in order to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Portugal no coração". The song won. However, every song was sung by two performers, and the audience preferred Os Amigos over Gemini. Toze Brito and Mike Sergeant had previously been in the grupo Quarteto IIII in the Portuguese National Finals.

They won the national final in 1978 with the song "Dai li dou". However, they only reached the 17th position.

Teresa and Fatima would represent Portugal once more in 1982 in the band Doce.

Gemini 6A

Gemini 6A (officially Gemini VI-A) was a 1965 manned United States spaceflight in NASA's Gemini program. The mission achieved the first manned rendezvous with another spacecraft, its sister Gemini 7. Although the Soviet Union had twice previously launched simultaneous pairs of Vostok spacecraft, these established radio contact with, but came no closer than several kilometers of each other, while the Gemini 6 and 7 spacecraft came as close as one foot (30 cm) and could have docked had they been so equipped.

Gemini 6A was the fifth manned Gemini flight, the 13th manned American flight, and the 21st manned spaceflight of all time (including X-15 flights over 100 kilometers (54 nautical miles)).

GeminiJets

GeminiJets is a die-cast model airplane manufacturer based in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States founded in 1998. The product line is named Geminijetplan, but ADI (Airliners Distributing Inc.) is the founding company holding the reproduction licenses from airlines and aircraft manufacturers, examples including Boeing and Airbus. ADI make and market aircraft in several different scales, all scales possess superior quality, and detailed printed graphics. The company produce replicas of commercial and military (Separately known as Gemini Aces) aircraft in various scales including the popular 1:400, 1:250, 1:200, 1:72.

GeminiJets uses aircraft manufacturers' blueprints and airlines Pantone color charts to create accurate duplication.

Between 1500 to 3000 models are produced for each release, as GeminiJets takes pride in that all of their models are limited edition. For this reason, GeminiJets has never made duplicate models, with at least a change in livery or aircraft registration number.

Life (manga)

Life (Japanese: ライフ, Hepburn: Raifu) is a shōjo manga series created by Keiko Suenobu, a manga creator well known for her work on Vitamin and Happy Tomorrow. Life was serialized in Bessatsu Friend, a publication of Kodansha, and deals with many controversial topics such as self-mutilation, bullying, rape, suicide, and manipulation. In 2006, it won the Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo.

The English language version of the manga, published by Tokyopop, was originally rated OT (Older Teen; 16+), but starting with the release of Volume 6 and carrying back over to future reprintings of the previous five, the rating was changed to M (Mature; 18+) for extremely explicit content in that volume. As of June 2008, nine volumes have been released in the United States; Volume 10 was scheduled for a September 2008 release, but on August 31, 2009, Kodansha (original Japanese publisher of the series) announced that they would drop their manga licensing contract with Tokyopop, leaving Life and other well-known series such as Rave Master unfinished, whether permanently or until picked up by other manga publishing companies (Dark Horse Manga and Del Rey Manga have already picked up certain titles). Kodansha also did not offer an explanation for their decision. The future of the English version of the manga is unknown, as Tokyopop itself shut down in May 2011 after they were faced with bankruptcy.
