Liberator (album)

Liberator is the ninth album by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, released in 1993. Co-founder Paul Humphreys, who had left the band four years prior, is credited as a co-writer on third single "Everyday".

The band had enjoyed a commercial renaissance with the multi-million selling UK Top 3 releases The Best of OMD (1988) and Sugar Tax (1991), but were unable to continue this run of success with Liberator: the record peaked at No. 14 on the UK Albums Chart, essentially marking a return to the realm of middling UK popularity that the group had found themselves in by 1985. None of its three singles cracked the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart, although lead single "Stand Above Me", and follow-up "Dream of Me" did make No. 21 and No. 24 respectively. International chart positions were similar or worse, and Liberator would be the penultimate album prior to OMD's disbandment in 1996, due to a lack of public interest.

Background

Andy McCluskey had originally been influenced by World War II aircraft, the B-24 Liberator in particular. The cover art originally featured a variation of the "bomber girl" nose cone art that many of them used.

Liberator (Blake's 7)

The spaceship Liberator is a fictional starship featured in the first three seasons of the BBC television series Blake's 7.

Background

In the TV series, the Liberator was an abandoned spacecraft found drifting near Cygnus Alpha. It was equipped with powerful weapons, force field protection, and a system of "battle computers". The ship was originally built by a race of beings known as "The System". The System referred to the ship as DSV2 ("Deep Space Vehicle 2"), a designation that suggests it was specifically designed for long-range forays outside the territory controlled by The System, and confirming more than one such ship had ever been made. It had at least one sister ship, which was destroyed by Orac in the episode "Redemption" (it is never clarified if the sister ship that Roj Blake encountered was DSV1).

The ship was controlled by an advanced AI computer calling itself Zen. Although it is not at the time clear whether this was the computer's official name, during the episode "Redemption" the System's controllers, (referred to as "Altas"), had boarded the ship and also referred to the computer as Zen.

Noel is a 1987 album by Latin freestyle artist Noel. It was released on CD in 1988. The album contains four singles, and reached #126 on the Billboard 200.

The first single, "Silent Morning", is his most successful single to date. It reached #47 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987. The second single, "Like a Child", also became very popular and was his first single to reach the top position on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. The third single from the album, "Out of Time" did not enter the Billboard Hot 100 but was the second single to reach the top of the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and the last to participate. The fourth single, "Change", also had similar success as the previous singles.
