Liar Game

The Liar Game (Japanese: ライアーゲーム, Hepburn: Raiā Gēmu) is a Japanese manga series originally written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani. The manga was first serialized in 2005 in the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Young Jump, published by Shueisha. It was adapted into a TV series, which started airing on April 14, 2007 on Fuji TV, achieving an 11.4 viewership rating in Japan's Kantō region. A sequel, Liar Game: Season 2, ran from 2009 to 2010. It was also adapted into two live action films: Liar Game: The Final Stage in 2010, and Liar Game: Reborn in 2012.

The manga has also been translated into Chinese and into Dutch. In Italy the series is licensed by J-Pop and in France it is licensed by TONKAM.

Plot summary

At the start of the manga, a scrupulously honest college student named Nao Kanzaki - receives a package containing 100 million yen (about 1 million dollars) and a note that she is now a contestant in the Liar Game Tournament. In this fictional tournament, contestants are encouraged to cheat and lie to obtain other contestants' money, with the losing ones forced to bear a debt proportional to their losses. When Nao's first opponent - a trusted former teacher - steals her money, she seeks assistance from a con man named Shinichi Akiyama. Though they manage to defeat him, Nao and Akiyama decide to buy out his debt and advance through different rounds of the Liar Game Tournament against merciless contestants, while at the same time attempting to free their opponents from debt and to defeat the Liar Game organization from within.

Liar Game: Season 2

Liar Game: Season 2 (ライアーゲーム　シーズン2) is the second season of the Japanese television drama series Liar Game, adapted from a popular manga, known as the Liar Game. In April 2009, a second season of the drama adaptation and a live action movie were announced. The second season began airing in November 2009 and concluded on January 19, 2010. The movie, known as the Liar Game: The Final Stage debuted on March 6, 2010.

Plot

Continuing from last season, the naive Kanzaki Nao (Erika Toda) and "genius swindler", Akiyama Shinichi (Shota Matsuda), go back to their normal routines until Nao receives an invitation from LGT to resume the Liar Game and compete for entrance to The Final Stage. Besides Kanzaki and Akiyama, the flamboyant Fukunaga (Suzuki Kosuke) returns to the Liar Game and a mysterious but talented psychology professor, Katsuragi Ryo, (Rinko Kikuchi) enters the Liar Game as a new character.

Starring Kim So-eun, Lee Sang-yoon and Shin Sung-rok, it aired on tvN from October 20 to November 18, 2014 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 23:00 for 12 episodes.

Plot

Nam Da-jung is an innocent college student who passes a hidden camera audition and is invited to join the reality show Liar Game, a psychological survival game wherein participants trick each other and the one who ultimately succeeds wins the prize money of ₩10 billion (US$9.3 million). Tempted with the chance to pay off her debts, Da-jung joins the game and gets conned out of the initial money given to her. In desperation, she asks genius ex-con swindler and former psychology professor Ha Woo-jin to help her win the game.
