The Book of Leviticus (/lɪˈvɪtɪkəs/; from Greek Λευιτικόν, Leuitikon, meaning "relating to the Levites") is the third book of the Hebrew Bible, and the third of five books of the Torah (or Pentateuch), and the third book of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Its Hebrew name, Hebrew: וַיִּקְרָא, Vayikra/Wayyiqrā, comes from its first word, "And He called." The English name is from the Latin Leviticus, taken in turn from Greek and a reference to the Levites, the tribe of Aaron, from whom the priests descended. The book, however, addresses all the people of Israel (1:2) though some passages address the priests specifically (6:8). Most of its chapters (1–7, 11–27) consist of God's speeches to Moses which he is commanded to repeat to the Israelites. This takes place within the story of the Israelites' Exodus after they escaped Egypt and reached Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19:1). The book of Exodus narrates how Moses led the Israelites in building the Tabernacle (Exodus 35–40) based on God's instructions (Exodus 25–31). Then in Leviticus, God tells the Israelites and their priests how to make offerings in the Tabernacle and how to conduct themselves while camped around the holy tent sanctuary. Leviticus takes place during the month or month-and-a-half between the completion of the Tabernacle (Exodus 40:17) and the Israelites' departure from Sinai (Numbers 1:1, 10:11).
Leviticus was a Christian metal band from Sweden. The band formed in 1981 and was led by Bjorn Stigsson. They released four albums before breaking up in 1990.
The band's early releases were metal with symphonic influences using the Roland synthesizer guitar and Moog Taurus pedals.Knights of Heaven showed a move toward a more melodic rock based sound.
In 1986 the band went through lineup changes: Ez Gomér was brought in to replace Håkan Andersson on bass, and Terry Haw joined. Both were with the band through Setting Fire to the Earth (1987), then left to form Jet Circus. With this lineup they toured extensively in Europe throughout 1986–1987.
They played the Greenbelt festival in England three times, 1984, 1985, and 1987, and the Scandinavium in Gothenburg twice (1985, 1987). The second appearance at the Scandinavium was with a festival, and was filmed by Sveriges Television.
In early '88 they toured again in Sweden and in April they returned to England. Their first United States tour was in August 1988, when they opened for Larry Norman and played as his backup band. In fall of that year they toured for two months throughout Europe. together with Bloodgood and concluded the year playing the Ennepetal Christmas Rock Night festival in Germany for the second time.
"Leviticus: Faggot" is a song written and performed by Meshell Ndegeocello, issued as the second single from her second studio album Peace Beyond Passion. The song peaked at #15 on the Billboard dance chart.
The official music video for the song was directed by Kevin Bray. The beginning of the video depicts a young man who is thrown out of his house for being gay, and the video concludes with the man committing suicide.
Because of the subject matter, the use of the word "faggot" being used so prominently in the song, and presumably the same-sex relations depicted in the video, many music video stations refused to air it without edits. The Box aired the video in its entirety, while MTV aired it but omitted a clip of the male protagonist showing the razor blade he later used to commit suicide.BET would not air the video at all, with then-music director Gregg Diggs stating that the network's decision not to air it was strictly because of the use of the word "faggot" and not because of "anything sexual". Ndegeocello declared Diggs' explanation "a crock of bull" and further stated that networks that edited the video or did not air the video missed the point that the song and video were making.
Listen in silence before me
Oh lands beyond the sea
Bring your strongest arguments
Come now and speak
The court is ready for your case
Who has stirred up this one
From the east whom victory
Meets at every step?
It's I, the Lord, I'm the first and the last
God has given him victory
Over many nations
And permitted him
To trample kings underfoot
To put entire armies to the sword
Who has done such mighty deeds
Directing the affair of generations
Of mankind as they march by?
See all your angry enemies
Lie confused and shattered
Anyone opposing you will die
You will look for them in vain
They will all be gone
I am holding you by your right hand
I, the Lord your God
