Legacy High School (LHS) is a high school located in Broomfield, Colorado that opened in 2000. It is within the Adams 12 Five Star Schools District, the fifth largest school district in Colorado with 42,000 students. Since its opening in 2000, the school grew to 2,182 students for the 2013/2014 school year.

"Legacy High School has been recognized as a High Growth, High Achievement school by the Colorado Department of Education. The school offers Advanced Placement classes in numerous subjects, and the 2009/2010 graduating class had 363 students take a total of 579 exams, which are open to junior and senior students. The average ACT score was 21.1 compared to the Colorado average of 19.4. A total of $ 5,148,626.00 in scholarships was offered to the 2009/2010 graduating class. "

"Legacy High School offers a special academic program called Legacy 2000 (L2K), which defined by the school, is a "rigorous four-year program designed to develop the tangible and intangible skills and experiences that assist students interested in preparing themselves for a career involving mathematics, science, and technology. The four-year course objectives include career and technology exploration, research practice, job shadowing and internships, and a final project presentation. This project encapsulates real-world experience, professional codes of conduct, and adherence to the regulations and procedures inherent in successful companies."

Legacy High School (North Las Vegas, Nevada)

Legacy High School is a high school in North Las Vegas, Nevada that opened in 2006. It is part of the Clark County School District, The school opened with an enrollment of 1,820 and currently has an enrollment of 2,480. Legacy High School describes itself as a Global Studies school, offering eight different sections of foreign language (French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, Sign language and Spanish). When the school opened during the 2006-07 school year, Legacy offered Arabic as one of its world languages courses, the first high school in Nevada to do so. The program has since been discontinued.

Athletics

The athletic program that represents Legacy is known as the Longhorns and compete in the Southwest Division of the Sunset 4A Region. Much of the schools athletic logos and uniforms are based on those used by athletic department at the University of Texas, Austin. Legacy has only been up for seven years and the school has had outstanding progress.Legacy High School's biggest rivalry is with Arbor View High School. Their most prize possession is the "The Horns" [trophy]. This rivalry game is also known as "The Battle of the Bulls". The rivalry between the high schools are 4-3 Legacy leads.

Secondary education in the United States

In most jurisdictions, secondary education in the United States refers to the last four years of statutory formal education (grade nine through grade twelve) either at high school or split between a final year of 'junior high school' and three in high school.

History

The United States historically had a demand for general skills rather than specific training/apprenticeships. High school enrollment increased when schools at this level became free, laws required children to attend until a certain age, and it was believed that every American student had the opportunity to participate regardless of their ability.

In 1892, in response to many competing academic philosophies being promoted at the time, a working group of educators, known as the "Committee of Ten" was established by the National Education Association. It recommended twelve years of instruction, consisting of eight years of elementary education followed by four years of high school. Rejecting suggestions that high schools should divide students into college-bound and working-trades groups from the start, and in some cases also by race or ethnic background, they unanimously recommended that "every subject which is taught at all in a secondary school should be taught in the same way and to the same extent to every pupil so long as he pursues it, no matter what the probable destination of the pupil may be, or at what point his education is to cease."
