Lee Stange

Albert Lee Stange (born October 27, 1936) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. The right-hander was signed by the Washington Senators as an amateur free agent before the 1957 season. He played for the Minnesota Twins (1961–64), Cleveland Indians (1964–66), Boston Red Sox (1966–70), and Chicago White Sox (1970).

The majority of his 359 appearances were as a relief pitcher, but he did start 125 games. In 1963, he was 12–5 and finished sixth in the American League in earned run average (2.62) and fifth in winning percentage (.705). In 1967, he was 8–10, 2.77 for the pennant-winning "Impossible Dream" Red Sox, and pitched two scoreless innings in World Series Game # 3 (October 7, 1967). He finished his career with a total of 62 wins, 61 losses, 32 complete games, 8 shutouts, 21 saves, 77 games finished, 718 strikeouts and only 344 walks in 1,216 innings pitched, and an ERA of 3.56.

Stange was later a pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox (1972–74; 1981–84), Minnesota Twins (1975), and Oakland Athletics (1977–79). He was a roving minor league pitching instructor in the Red Sox farm system in 1971, 1980 and 1985–94, and managed Oakland's Triple-A Tucson Toros farm club for the final weeks of the 1976 season.

Stange

 Stange  is a municipality in Hedmark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Hedmarken. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Stangebyen.

General information

Name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the old Stange farm (Old Norse: Stangir), since the first church was built there. The name is the plural form of stǫng which means "bar, pole, rod". (The farm is lying on a long hill, and this is probably the background for the name.)

Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times. They were granted on 20 June 1986. The arms show a silver-colored medieval plough called an ard on a green background. It symbolizes this historic importance of agriculture in the area; originally the growing of grains and then later growing potatoes. The arms were designed by Arne Løvstad.

History

Archeological finds indicate agricultural settlements in the area well before the Viking Age. Since the shortest route from the south to Hamar went through the area, there have also been trade and hospitality there since time immemorial. Stange has its own historical association that publishes articles, short research topics, as well as authoritative works on the area's history.

Kölsch (beer)

Kölsch (German pronunciation: [kœlʃ]) is a beer brewed in Cologne, Germany. It is clear with a bright, straw-yellow hue similar to a standard German pale lager.

Kölsch is warm fermented at around 13 to 21 °C (55 to 70 °F), then conditioned by lagering at cold temperatures. This style of fermentation links Kölsch with some other central northern European beers such as the Altbiers of western Germany and the Netherlands.

Kölsch is defined by an agreement between members of the Cologne Brewery Association known as the Kölsch Konvention. It has a gravity between 11 and 16 degrees.

History

The term Kölsch was first officially used in 1918 to describe the beer that had been brewed by the Sünner brewery since 1906. It was developed from the similar but cloudier variant Wieß (for "white" in the Kölsch dialect). It never became particularly popular in the first half of the twentieth century, when bottom-fermented beers prevailed as in the rest of Germany. Prior to World War II Cologne had more than forty breweries; this number was reduced to two in the devastation and its aftermath.
