Staple (textiles)

A staple is a fibre of a standardized length and may be of any composition, but a wool staple is an independent natural cluster of fibres, not a single fibre. A continuous fibre such as natural silk or synthetic is known as a filament rather than a fibre.

Etymology

Of uncertain origin but possibly a back-formation arising because part of the business of a wool-stapler was to sort and class the wool according to quality. According to Chambers Dictionary the actual word "staple" including staple foods and other products comes from the Low German word Stapel meaning a heap of goods to be sold.

Staple length

Staple length, a property of staple fibres, is a term referring to the average length of a group of fibres of any composition. Staple length depends on the origin of the fibres. Natural fibres (such as cotton or wool) have a range of lengths in each sample, so the staple length is an average. For synthetic fibres which have been cut to certain length, the staple length is the same for every fibre in the group.

Leaving is the sixth extended play (EP) by American electronic dance music producer Skrillex. It was released on January 2, 2013 exclusively to members of The Nest (OWSLA's subscription service). The three tracks were also uploaded to Moore's official YouTube channel the following day. The song "Scary Bolly Dub" had previously been played live and circulated through the Internet for approximately a year before being officially released. A mixed version also features on Caspa Presents Dubstep Sessions 2012. The song samples the 2010 tracks "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" and "Fucking Die 1". In a personal message to members of The Nest, Moore said that he uses the track "more as a DJ tool, but I wanted you guys to have it". The title track was created in Moore's hotel room in Mexico. "The Reason" was finished an hour before release in Moore's hotel room in Miami. "The Reason" has received significant attention and airplay in Australia, mostly on youth radio station Triple J.
