  • Leavin' (album)

Leavin' is the twentieth studio album by American recording artist Natalie Cole, released on September 26, 2006, by Verve Records. The album consists of ten cover versions of various R&B and pop songs and two original songs: "5 Minutes Away" and "Don't Say Goodnight (It's Time for Love)." It was the second album released from Verve Records and the first album by the singer in four years following Ask a Woman Who Knows.

The album received limited commercial success. It peaked at number 97 on Billboard 200. Internationally, the album charted in Germany and Switzerland.

The album spawned one single: "Day Dreaming" with an accompanying music video.

    Reception

    Critical response

Andy Kellman of AllMusic praised the album as "a treat for any Cole fan" and drew attention to how it sounded like it was recorded at "leisurely pace." He noted that Cole sounded like she was "breez[ing] through an easygoing set of covers." The BBC's Chris Jones defined the album as "an ultra smooth mix of standards both tasteful and obtuse." He noted Cole's vocal performance had a "tasteful restraint" when recording covers instead of "the modulated warbling that seems to pass for R&B these days". Rogers wrote that the album is a perfect fit for listeners of Joss Stone and Jamie Cullum

    Leavin' (Jesse McCartney song)

"Leavin'" is a song by American singer-songwriter Jesse McCartney, released as the lead single from McCartney's third studio album Departure (2008). Written and produced by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, with additional writing by James Bunton and Corron Ty Cole, "Leavin'" was sent to U.S. mainstream radios on March 10, 2008.

"Leavin'" was considered a departure from Jesse's young image, having a more adult topic and sound. Lyrically, the song sees Jesse eyeing a female's backside with plans to steal her from her current beau. Sonically, the song is pop with an electro production style. Its music video shows the singer ogling a model for three minutes or so before slipping her the tongue at the end.

"Leavin'" remains one of McCartney's biggest hit singles in the United States to date, receiving huge radio and mainstream play, reaching number one on the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream and the top-ten on the Billboard Hot 100, selling over 2 million digital downloads, and being certified Platinum by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

I fell asleep then I woke up from my dream yeah
I looked around but it wasn't what it seemed yeah
'Cause it's time for me to make a change yeah
'Cause it's time for me to rearrange yeah
Something's callin' out from under cover and
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
Something's callin' time for some discoverin'
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
    I'm leavin'
I made a promise I'd be honest 'til the very end
I tried to be myself but you were still not listenin'
You don't notice me 'cause I don't fool around
I don't wanna be in your in-crowd (in your in-crowd)
Something's callin' out from under cover and
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
Something's callin' time for some discoverin'
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
    I'm leavin'
    Time to go...
    Time to go...
So you don't know me very well right now
You try to change me and you stress me out
One day we'll find out this is all a phase
I am losing 'cause I've overstayed...
    Something's callin' me...
    Something's callin' me...
Something's callin' out from under cover and
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
Something's callin' time for some discoverin'
    I'm free now
    I'm leavin'
