Essence (The X-Files)

"Essence" is the twentieth and penultimate episode of the eighth season and the 181st episode overall of the science fiction television series The X-Files. The episode first aired in the United States on May 13, 2001 on Fox, and subsequently aired in the United Kingdom. It was written by executive producer Chris Carter and directed by Kim Manners. "Essence" earned Nielsen rating of 7.7 and was viewed by 12.8 million viewers. The episode received largely positive reviews from critics.

The show centers on FBI special agents John Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)—as well as ex-FBI agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny)—who work on cases linked to the paranormal, called X-Files. In this episode, Mulder, Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), and Doggett come up against the horrible consequences of the Syndicate’s pact with the aliens, as Billy Miles (Zachary Ansley)—reprogrammed as a soldier—attempts to erase all evidence of the tests—including Scully's soon-to-be-born baby. The men call on Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) to help them.

Reviewed in the January 3, 1963 issue of Down Beat magazine, jazz critic Richard B. Hadlock said that "Over and over throughout the 44 remarkable minutes of this recording the force of Ellis' extraordinary musicianship makes itself felt. Indeed, at times his complete mastery of the horn almost seems to get in the way. But this is a brilliant young musician with original ideas to offer..."

The Allmusic site awarded the album 4 stars stating "Ellis, who sought during this period to transfer ideas and concepts from modern classical music into adventurous jazz, often experimented with time, tempos and the use of space while still swinging... This is thought-provoking music that was certainly way overdue to be reissued."The Penguin Guide to Jazz said "The group is a fine one; even the little-known drummers play with authority and seem equal to Ellis's developing rhythmic obsessions. ...Bley is fascinating and Peacock his usual authoritative self."

Lavender (album)

Lavender is an album by Machiko Yamane and Paul Christopher Musgrave. It contains 12 original compositions for piano and string orchestra, and was recorded with members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the CBC Radio Orchestra.

According to CD Review, Lavender is "poetically performed", and "eclectic, with a classical flavor". "The themes and arrangements are elegant, light, and lovely" according to the NAPRA Trade Journal, who also noted a "Satie" influence. Margaret McCoy of Virginia Pathways wrote that Lavender is "as fresh as the breeze on a hyacinth-covered open field, yet as elegant as a candlelight dinner for two high above Park Avenue." She praised its depth and sophistication.

According to Dan Gassoway, "Paul Christopher's original piano pieces stroll lazily along with a quiet and poignant charm that slowly seduces the listener". In the Lifedance Music Guide he wrote that Lavender's "deceptively simple melodies spin into delicately interwoven patterns that often touch the heart's subtle emotional chords."

Lavender (2015 film)

Lavender is a 2015 Malayalam romantic action drama film wriiten by Anoop Menon and directed by Altas T. Ali, starring Rahman, Nishan, Anoop Menon, Govind Padmasoorya, Aju Varghese and Thalaivasal Vijay in the lead roles. Iranian theater artiste Elham Mirza debut as the heroine in the film. The film is shot mostly in Thailand. The film was released on 26 June 2015.

Sidharth Mahadevan, son of singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan sings a song in Malayalam for the first time. Sidharth sings "Cherathe Cherathe..." composed by Deepak Dev. The lyrics are penned by Rafeeq Ahamed. The other songs are sung by Vijay Yesudas, Amal Antony Agustin, Kavya Ajith, and Ajmal.

Lavender (chicken plumage)

Lavender or self-blue refers to a plumage color pattern in the chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) characterized by a uniform, pale bluish grey color across all feathers. The distinctive color is caused by the action of an autosomal recessive gene, commonly designated as "lav", which reduces the expression of eumelanin and phaeomelanin so that black areas of the plumage appear pale grey instead, and red areas appear a pale buff.

Description

The "lavender" gene (lav) in the chicken causes the dilution of both black (eumelanin) and red/brown (phaeomelanin) pigments, so according to color background, dilution due to "lavender" gives a sort of plumage color patterns: On an extended black background, this condition causes the entire surface of the body an even shade of light slaty blue, which is the typical phenotype known as '"self-blue"'.

On a red/brown color plumage background, lavender gene degrades color to beige, like in some Pekin Bantams as in the picture set aside. On the color background of the Belgian Bearded d'Uccle Bantams, frequently referred to as the "Mille Fleur" in the United States, lavender causes the pattern known as "porcelain". The resulting "porcelain" pattern is beige with each feather tipped with a V-shaped of slaty blue near the end of the feather and the feather tipped with a V-shaped white spangle.
