Laura Palmer

Laura Palmer is a fictional character from the American television series Twin Peaks on ABC. She is portrayed by Sheryl Lee and was created by the series creators David Lynch and Mark Frost. A high school student whose death is the catalyst for the events of the series, Palmer is the protagonist in Lynch's prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, which depicts the final week of her life leading up to her murder.

Fictional character biography

Laura (played by Sheryl Lee, who also played her cousin Maddy Ferguson), was well known and loved in Twin Peaks; she volunteered at Meals on Wheels, was her school's Homecoming Queen, and was (apparently) the darling of her parents, Sarah and Leland. However, the series gradually revealed that Laura led a double life — she was a cocaine addict, a victim of child abuse and, briefly, a prostitute at One Eyed Jacks, a casino/brothel just north of the Canadian border. Officially involved with Bobby Briggs, the high school football team captain, she was also engaged in a secret relationship with James Hurley. She had also had sexual encounters with other Twin Peaks citizens, such as businessman Ben Horne and trucker/drug dealer Leo Johnson.

Laura Palmer (song)

"Laura Palmer" is a song by British band Bastille. It is the fifth single from their debut studio album Bad Blood, and the follow-up to their hit single "Pompeii". The song was originally released in 2011 as a track from their self-released EP of the same name (along with the tracks "Overjoyed", "Things We Lost in the Fire" and "Get Home"). It was re-released as its own digital download on 2 June 2013. It peaked at number 42 on the UK Singles Chart. The song took its name from the character in David Lynch and Mark Frost's TV series Twin Peaks.

Critical reception

Lewis Corner of Digital Spy gave the song a positive review stating:

The track is immersed in inspiration from the popular show – from the blood-racing beats, to the haunting echoes. "What a year and what a night/ What terrifying final sights/ Put out your beating heart," Smith asks the American victim in his sonorous vocal tone, before he bursts into a swooping chorus as compelling as the series itself. The final result not only serves as an ear-friendly ode to Twin Peaks, but is sure to strengthen Bastille's very own cult following even more.

    Walking out into the dark
    Cutting out a different path
    Lead by your beating heart
All the people of the town
Cast their eyes right to the ground
    In matters of the heart
The night was all you had
You ran into the night from all you had
Found yourself a path upon the ground
You ran into the night; you can't be found
    This is your heart
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
    Pumps through your veins
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
    Summer evening breezes blew
    Drawing voices deep from you
    Lead by your beating heart
What a year and what a night
    What terrifying final sights
    Put out your beating heart
The night was all you had
You ran into the night from all you had
Found yourself a path upon the ground
You ran into the night; you can't be found
    This is your heart
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
    Pumps through your veins
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
If you had your gun would you shoot it at the sky, why?
To see where it would fall, will you come down at all?
If you had your gun would you shoot it at the sky, why?

    This is your heart
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
    Pumps through your veins
Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
    This is your racing heart
