Laughter & Lust is a 1991 album by Joe Jackson. He left A&M Records in 1990, who soon released Steppin' Out: The Very Best of Joe Jackson, which became a Top Ten hit in the UK. Jackson subsequently signed a recording contract with Virgin Records.
Music journalist Martin C. Strong states "Laughter & Lust was Jackson's most direct, accessible material in years, a welcome diversion from his constant experimentation".

Guest musicians:
I could cool out, I could hang loose
I could lay my head back in this comfortable noose
I could watch the paint dry on these rented walls
Or I could run wild with the first wild thing who calls
Goin' downtown, goin' downtown
Goin' downtown to stand 'round and stare
And put people down for not bein' there
Goin' downtown and I'll see you there
But I saw you laugh at that girl havin' fun
To show some emotion, just isn't done
You can look but don't touch, that's as far as it goes
You're only as good as the cut of your clothes
Goin' downtown, goin' downtown
Goin' downtown to stand 'round and stare
And put people down for not bein' there
Goin' downtown and I'll see you there
Goin' downtown to stand 'round and stare
And put people down for not bein' there
Goin' downtown and I'll see you there
Goin' downtown, goin' downtown
Goin' downtown, goin' downtown
Downtown, goin' downtown
