Gustavo Sánchez Martínez

Gustavo Sánchez Martínez (born 3 May 1994 in Mexico City) is a disabled swimmer (born without left hand and both legs) who won four medals for Mexico at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. He competed in five events, 50m freesteyle (5th place), 100m freestyle (1st place), 200m freestyle (1st place), 150m medley (2nd place), 50m backstroke (3d place). Gustavo became well known at World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, 2010, where he won three bronze medals. His biggest rivals in the pools are David Smetanine from France and Richard Oribe from Spain. Outside swimming he enjoys science fiction, video games, and is a fan of The Doors.

Ricardo Caballero Tostado

Ricardo Caballero Tostado (born January 19, 1982) is a Mexican singer who was the runner-up of the second season of the singing competition series Latin American Idol. Ricardo is known as the "Caballero de Mexico".

Caballero was born in the city of Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, located in western Mexico. He is the only son of Raul Caballero, a performer, and Georgina Tostado Orozco de Caballero, a fitness trainer; he has an older paternal half brother. Caballero began singing at bars and hotel lobbies at the age of 17. A year later, he began performing shows with his father. He continued performing in order to help pay for his studies at the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente, or ITESO, at the Guadalajara campus, from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing.

Ricardo has been the opening performer for concerts for international groups that include La Quinta Estación and Ha*Ash, among others. He has his own self-titled show, Ricardo Caballero; he is the singer and is accompanied by a band of five additional people. They have toured Mexico.

Latin American Idol

Latin American Idol was the Spanish American edition of the popular British franchise of Idols, well known for its American version American Idol. The show aimed to discover the pop idol of the Latin American region. The show was filmed in Buenos Aires and was transmitted to over 23 nations in the region via the Sony Entertainment Television network.

Premise

Latin American Idol was filmed in Buenos Aires, Argentina and aired throughout Latin America with the exception of Brazil, which has its own version called Ídolos Brazil, premiered in 2006. Portuguese-language contestants can participate if they are able to sing in Spanish. The show's hosts are the Venezuelan Erika de La Vega and Argentine Monchi Balestra. In the first season the judges panel was made up by Jon Secada from the United States (born in Cuba), Gustavo Sánchez from Puerto Rico and Elizabeth Meza from México, the last of this being replaced since the second season by Mimi, a former member of musical group Flans, and Oscar Mediavilla from Argentina, replacing Gustavo Sánchez for the fourth season.

Latin American Idol (season 2)

The second season of Latin American Idol premiered on June 13, 2007 and continued until September 27, 2007, when it was won by Guatemalan born Carlos Peña. Auditions were held in Caracas, Bogotá, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires in the spring of 2007. The concerts began on July in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the host country. For this season the judge Elizabeth Meza quit, and the Mexican singer Mimi was hired as the new Latin American Idol judge. At age 19, Peña is the first male and youngest person to win the competition, and second winner to never have been in the bottom two or three.

The first season of Latin American Idol premiered on July 12, 2006 and continued until October 27, 2006, when it was won by Venezuelan born Mayré Martínez. Auditions were held in Caracas, Bogotá, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires in the spring of 2006. The concerts started on August 30 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the host country.

Jon Secada

Jon Secada (born Juan Francisco Secada Martínez; October 4, 1961) is a Cuban American singer and songwriter. Secada was born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Hialeah, Florida. He has won two Grammy Awards and sold 20 million albums since his English-language debut album in 1992. His music fuses funk, soul, pop and Latin percussion. Secada also has worked as a songwriter for Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Mandy Moore and other performers.

Early life

Secada emigrated with his parents to the United States at age 12 after previously living in Spain; while he attended school, his family managed a coffee shop. As a teen, Secada discovered his gift for music. In the culturally-diverse city of Miami, Secada was exposed to salsa and merengue. Secada also became interested in rhythm and blues and pop music performed by Barry Manilow, Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder.

Secada graduated from South Florida's Hialeah High School in 1979 and then enrolled at Miami Dade Community College, then transferring to the University of Miami. During college, he became an accomplished jazz musician and was inducted into the Iron Arrow Honor Society. He completed a Bachelor's degree in Music and then earned a Master's degree in Jazz Vocal Performance.

Jon Secada (album)

Jon Secada is the self-titled English-language debut album by pop singer Jon Secada, released in 1992. It sold six million copies worldwide and was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA. The album peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200 album chart in March 1993. It features four singles that reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 or the Top 10 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. At the 5th Lo Nuestro Awards, the album won the award for "Pop Album of the Year".
