Kasturi (TV series)

Kasturi was an Indian soap opera that aired on STAR Plus channel from 23 April 2007 through 31 March 2009.

Plot summary

Kasturi revolves around Kasturi Chawla (Shubhangi Atre Poorey), a young woman from a middle-class family. After graduating from university, she begins working for Robbie Sabharwal (Karan Patel) - a spoilt, arrogant, yet immensely popular rockstar.

Robbie and Kasturi take an instant disliking to each other due to the difference in their class, values and morals. Kasturi befriends Robbie's best friend Raunak (Jatin Shah), who seems to respect and understand her beliefs. As Robbie and Kasturi spend more time together, they start to fall in love and eventually confess their feelings. Their relationship is short-lived, as a misunderstanding causes Robbie to believe that Kasturi is cheating on him with Raunak.

After Robbie and Kasturi split up, Raunak proposes to Kasturi and she accepts after brief hesitation. On the day of their wedding, Robbie comes to know that he had misunderstood Kasturi and Raunak's relationship. He apologizes and begs Kasturi to reconcile with him, but she denies on the basis that their relationship has no future due to his constant lack of trust in her.

Haya people

The Haya are an ethnic and linguistic group based in the Bukoba District, Muleba District and Karagwe District of Kagera Region in northwestern Tanzania, East Africa. In 1991 the Haya population was estimated to number 1,200,000. They speak the Haya language.

Haya History

The Haya are said to have settled in the Kagera Region of north western Tanzania during the time of the Bantu expansion. They are believed to be some of the earliest inhabitants in the area to practice metal work which allowed them to create various new forms of pottery.

They were organized into small groups which were loosely affiliated with one another and organized in a system similar to feudalism with commoners and nobles as the main participants. With the arrival of the Europeans and christianity the region became famous for yielding the first African Roman Catholic Cardinal the late Cardinal Laurian Rugambwa also they valued formal education early compared to other tribes.

In 1978, the ancestral region to which the Haya belong was subject to an attempted annexation by the former Ugandan president Idi Amin Dada whose invasion of the Kagera region eventually lead to the toppling of his government by the Army of Tanzania.

Tenneti Hemalata, (November 15, 1935 – 1997), better known as Lata, is a Telugu writer from Andhra Pradesh, India. She was a prolific and influential writer who wrote about various situations through the perspective of an educated niyogi Brahmin woman.Some of her novels, like 'galipadagaloo nitibudagalu ' raised controversies. She was said to be a liberal but her writings had a solid base of tradition too.

Biography

Lata was born to Nibhanupudi Visalakshi and Narayana Rao on November 15, 1935 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Her full given name was Janaki Rama Krishnaveni Hemalata. She had formal schooling up to fifth standard, and later studied Sanskrit, Telugu and English classics at home. She was married at the age of nine to Tenneti Atchyutaramayya, who was seven years her senior, and suffered from an incurable medical condition. Her father died at the age of 32, when her mother was pregnant with another child. The child is male(born 4-6-1944 after his fathers death), Nibhanupudi Surya Prakasa Rao (named after his grandfather) and retired as Professor in Organic Chemistry in Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur in 2004.
