Lakewood Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census the township had a total population of 92,843, representing an increase of 32,491 (+53.8%) from the 60,352 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 15,304 (+34.0%) from the 45,048 counted in the 1990 Census. The township ranked as the seventh-most-populous municipality in the state in 2010 after having been ranked 22nd in 2000. The sharp increase in population from 2000 to 2010 was led by increases in the township's Orthodox Jewish and Latino communities.
Lakewood is one of the hubs of Orthodox Judaism and is home to one of the largest yeshivas in the world, Beth Medrash Govoha, which was founded by Rabbi Aharon Kotler. The large Orthodox population, comprising more than half the township's population, wields considerable political clout in the Township.
The earliest documented European settlement of the present Lakewood area was by operators of sawmills, from about 1750 forward. One such sawmill, located at the east end of the present Lake Carasaljo, was known as Three Partners Mill from at least 1789 until at least 1814. From 1815 until 1818, in the same area, Jesse Richards had an iron-smelting operation known as Washington Furnace, using the local bog iron ore. The ironworks were revived in 1833 by Joseph W. Brick, who named the business Bergen Iron Works, which also became the name of the accompanying town. In 1865, the town was renamed Bricksburg in 1865, and in 1880 it was renamed Lakewood and became a fashionable winter resort.
The City of Lakewood is a Home Rule Municipality which is the most populous municipality in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. Lakewood is the fifth most populous city in the State of Colorado and the 172nd most populous city in the United States. The city population was 142,980 at the 2010 United States Census. Lakewood is west of Denver and is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The urban/suburban development of the community known as Lakewood was begun in 1889 by Charles Welch and W.A.H. Loveland, who platted a 13-block area along Colfax Avenue west of Denver in eastern Jefferson County. Loveland, the former president of the Colorado Central Railroad, retired to the new community of Lakewood after many years of living in Golden.
Until 1969, the area known as Lakewood had no municipal government, relying instead on several water districts, several fire districts, and the government of Jefferson County. Lakewood was a community with policing provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff, several volunteer staffed fire districts, and some neighborhoods without street lights and sidewalks. However, the community had already existed for about 80 years.
Now is the time for all people
From every land to come together
Now is the moment for worship
We enter in withholding nothing
He is worthy exalted
He's high and lifted up
Chorus:
Sing, sing unto the Lord
Open up you heart
Make a joyful noise
In the sanctuary
Sing, sing unto the Lord
Lavish Him with love
Let the praises ring
In the sanctuary
Sing
Now is the time for all people
From every land to come together
Now is the moment for worship
We enter in withholding nothing
(Because) You're worthy, exalted
You're high and lifted up
(Chorus)
Bridge:
Gotta open up your mouth and give Him praise
Open up your heart and give Him praise
Lift up holy hand unashamed
In the sanctuary
Gotta open up your mouth and give Him praise
Open up your heart and give Him praise
Lift up holy hand unashamed
Sing Sing Sing
Sing unto the Lord
Open up you heart
Make a joyful noise
In the sanctuary
Sing unto the Lord
Lavish Him with love
Let your praises ring
In the sanctuary
