Lake Forest Park, Washington

Lake Forest Park is a city in King County, Washington, United States, just north of Seattle. A bedroom community by design, most of the city consists of single-family housing on medium to large-sized lots. Less than 4% of the city land is zoned commercial; most of that is in one location, and there are no industrial areas.

Lake Forest Park is situated along the shore of Lake Washington, and includes parks and nature preserves, convenient access to the Burke-Gilman Trail, a summertime farmer's market, and a large new and used bookstore / food court holding frequent musical events. The population was 12,598 at the 2010 census.

History

Lake Forest Park was founded in 1912 by Ole Hanson as one of the Seattle area's first planned communities. Envisioned as a picturesque retreat for professionals, the developers planned roads and lots in strict consideration for natural landmarks. The original prospectus for lot sales declared:

Until 1914 and completion of the Red Brick Road (now Bothell Way, part of State Route 522) to nearby Kenmore and Bothell, it also marked the literal end of improved roads heading north from Seattle, with the best access to points further north and east being by boat across Lake Washington or the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway.

Forest Park (Springfield, Massachusetts)

Forest Park in Springfield, Massachusetts, is one of the largest urban, municipal parks in the United States, covering 735 acres (297 ha) of land overlooking the Connecticut River. Designed by the renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Forest Park features a zoo, aquatic gardens, and outdoor amphitheater, in addition to typical Olmsted design elements like winding wooded trails, and surprising, expansive views. The site of America's first public, municipal swimming pool, currently, during the holiday months Forest Park hosts a popular high-tech lighting display, known as Bright Nights.

History

In 1884, Springfielder Orick H. Greenleaf offered 65 acres (26 ha) for the establishment of a park to be named Forest Park. Shortly after, approximately 178 acres (72 ha) were donated by wealthy philanthropist Everett Hosmer Barney. Barney made his fortune as a Civil War arms producer and later as a businessman, inventing clamp-on ice skates and rollerskates.

Forest Park is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. It is located approximately nine miles (14 km) south of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta–Sandy Springs–Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 18,468.

History

Originally the third stop from Atlanta on the Macon and Western Railroad, the city was incorporated in 1908. The 1,465-acre (5.93 km²) Fort Gillem was founded nearby in 1941 and was annexed into the city in 1973.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.4 square miles (24 km²), of which 9.4 square miles (24 km²) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) (0.43%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 18,468 people, 6,877 households, and 4,839 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,990.9 people per square mile (882.8/km²). There were 7,233 housing units at an average density of 771.5 per square mile (297.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 19.2% White, 37.7% African American, 0.50% Native American, 7.9% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino of any race were 34.3% of the population.

Forest Park (St. Louis)

Forest Park is a public park located in the western part of the city of St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. It is a prominent civic center and covers 1,371 acres (5.55 km²). The park, which opened in 1876, more than a decade after its proposal, has hosted several significant events, including the Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904 and the 1904 Summer Olympics. Bounded by Skinker Boulevard, Lindell Boulevard, Kingshighway Boulevard, and Oakland Avenue, the park is known as the "heart of St. Louis" and features a variety of attractions, including the St. Louis Zoo, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Missouri History Museum, and the St. Louis Science Center.

Since the early 2000s, it has carried out a $100 million restoration of its facilities through a public-private partnership aided by its Master Plan. Changes have extended to improving landscaping and habitat as well. The park's acreage includes meadows and trees, and a variety of ponds, manmade lakes, and freshwater streams. For several years, the park has been restoring prairie and wetlands areas of the park. It has reduced flooding and attracted a much greater variety of birds and wildlife, which have settled in the new natural habitats.

Lake Forest, Knoxville, Tennessee

Lake Forest is a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee located in the South Knoxville area. The area covers south of Knoxville Downtown Island Airport, then along Island Home Pike, Chapman Highway, West Red Bud Drive (later Sarvis Drive), Stone Road, Oliver Road, Neubert Springs Road, Martin Mill Pike to Ogle Avenue, Doyle Street, Maryville Pike, back to Chapman Highway, then Moody Avenue to Seveirville Pike, East Red Bud Road, and Gilbert Avenue.

Lake Forest (Metra Milwaukee District / North Line station)

Lake Forest is a railroad station in Western Lake Forest, Illinois, United States served by Metra's Milwaukee District/North Line. Platform 1 is where outbound trains board, and platform 2 is where inbound trains board.The station is located on 10205 North Waukegan Road (IL 43), which is 28.3 miles (45.5 km) away from Union Station, the southern terminus of the line, and serves commuters between Union Station and Fox Lake, Illinois. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Lake Forest is in zone F.

Another Lake Forest Station exists along the Union Pacific/North Line east of this station. Therefore, this station can also be referred to as West Lake Forest Station. No bus connections exist here, nor is there any connection to the East Lake Forest Station. However parking is available along Telegraph Road along the west side of the tracks, and the station is accessible from North Waukegan Road through Settler's Square on the east side of the tracks.

Lake Forest is a city located in Lake County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 19,375. The city is south of Waukegan along the shore of Lake Michigan, and is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area and the North Shore. Lake Forest was founded around Lake Forest College and was laid out as a town in 1857 as a stop for travelers making their way south to Chicago. The Lake Forest City Hall, designed by Charles Sumner Frost, was completed in 1898 and originally housed the fire department, the Lake Forest Library, and city offices.

According to the 2010 census, Lake Forest has a total area of 17.246 square miles (44.67 km²), of which 17.18 square miles (44.50 km²) (or 99.62%) is land and 0.066 square miles (0.17 km²) (or 0.38%) is water.

History

The Potawatomi inhabited Lake County before money and violence pushed them away in 1836.
