Lake Buckeye

Lake Buckeye, a natural freshwater lake in eastern Winter Haven, Florida, United States, is somewhat oval in shape. This lake has a 70.24-acre (284,300 m²) surface area. This lake is bordered on the west side by residences and along most of the north and east by woods. Buckeye Road borders the lake on the south and part of the southeast. This lake is very swamplike along its northern, eastern and southeastern shores. It has a number of floating islands along these areas and at least one on its west shore.

The public has access to this lake along most of its southeast shore and all of its south shore, along the right-of-way of Buckeye Road. A public boat ramp is on the southeast shore, again along Buckeye Road. This lake has no public swimming areas. The Hook and Bullet website says Lake Buckeye contains largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie.

Ohio

Ohio ⁱ/oʊˈhaɪ.oʊ/ is a state in the midwestern region of the United States. Ohio is the 34th largest by area, the 7th most populous, and the 10th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's capital and largest city is Columbus.

The state takes its name from the Ohio River. The name originated from the Iroquois word ohi-yo’, meaning "great river" or "large creek." Junonia coenia

The common buckeye or simply, buckeye, (Junonia coenia) is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. It is found in southern Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia and all parts of the United States except the northwest, and is especially common in the south, the California coast, and throughout Central America and Colombia. The sub-species Junonia coenia bergi is endemic to the island of Bermuda.

Its habitat is open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground. This species and its relatives were placed formerly in the genus Precis.

Description

The bold pattern of eyespots and white bars on the upper wing surface is distinctive in much of its range, though compare related species in the same genus. These are mangrove buckeye (Junonia evarete) and tropical buckeye (Junonia genoveva), formerly considered one species, and the smoky buckeye (Junonia evarete). The eyespots likely serve to startle or distract predators, especially young birds. The species has many flights throughout the year, with mostly northward migrations for the summer. Much of the northern United States is only colonized in the fall from southern populations. Some of the later broods move southwards in the fall. Common buckeyes exhibit seasonal polyphenism, the summer version of the butterfly has light yellowish ventral wings and is called "linea". The fall morph has pink ventral wings, and is called the "rosa" morph.

Lake

A lake is an area of variable size filled with water, localized in a basin, that is surrounded by land, apart from any river or other outlet that serves to feed or drain the lake. Lakes lie on land and are not part of the ocean (except for sea lochs in Scotland and Ireland), and therefore are distinct from lagoons, and are also larger and deeper than ponds, though there are no official or scientific definitions. Lakes can be contrasted with rivers or streams, which are usually flowing. However most lakes are fed and drained by rivers and streams.

Natural lakes are generally found in mountainous areas, rift zones, and areas with ongoing glaciation. Other lakes are found in endorheic basins or along the courses of mature rivers. In some parts of the world there are many lakes because of chaotic drainage patterns left over from the last Ice Age. All lakes are temporary over geologic time scales, as they will slowly fill in with sediments or spill out of the basin containing them.

Many lakes are artificial and are constructed for industrial or agricultural use, for hydro-electric power generation or domestic water supply, or for aesthetic or recreational purposes.

Lake (American band)

Lake (stylized as LAKE) is an American indie pop band, signed to K Records, based in Olympia, Washington. Formed in 2005, they are also known for composing the end song to the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time, entitled "Christmas Island" or "The Island Song" . A version of the song was featured on their third album, Let's Build a Roof. Another Adventure Time episode entitled "Shh!" , featured their song "No Wonder I."

Lake features male and female vocals backed by guitars, keyboards and occasionally horns. AllMusic referred to Lake as being "one of several brainy and sweet indie pop bands... to call the Pacific Northwest their home." These characteristics were also noted in their reviews by Pitchfork Media. Like many artists on K Records, their style is lo-fi.
