Lady Grey (tea)

Lady Grey tea is a variation on the famous Earl Grey tea. Like Earl Grey it is a black tea scented with oil of bergamot (though in lower concentrations in Lady Grey). Additionally it contains lemon peel and orange peel oil.

Lady Grey tea was named after Mary Elizabeth Grey, the wife of Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, after whom Earl Grey tea is named.

'Lady Grey' is also a registered trademark of Twinings. The Twinings blend contains black teas, Seville orange, lemon, bergamot, and cornflower, although other companies' blends of Lady Grey include lavender instead of or in addition to Seville oranges.

Lady Grey tea is a modern invention, created by Twinings in the early 1990s to appeal to the Nordic market, who found Earl Grey tea too pungent. It first went on sale in Norway in 1994 and in Britain in 1996.

Lady Grey, Eastern Cape

Lady Grey is a rural village in the North-Eastern Cape in South Africa near the border with Lesotho. It is situated in the foothills of the Witteberg mountains, 54 km due east of Aliwal North on the R58 road and 260 km from the capital of the Free State Province, Bloemfontein.

History

Lady Grey was established on the farm Waaihoek, purchased by the Dutch Reformed Church of Aliwal North on 30 April 1857 for the purpose of founding a new congregation. It was named in honour of Eliza Lucy Grey (née Spencer), daughter of Sir Richard Spencer, and wife of Sir George Grey the Cape governor . The first municipality of Lady Grey was proclaimed in 1893. Currently, Senqu Local Municipality has its seat in Lady Grey.

Tourism

Tucked away in a valley below the majestic Witteberg mountains, Lady Grey is a hidden gem, a tranquil, rural village founded in 1858. Surrounded by soaring mountains, crisp clean air and gentle streams, a number of charming country cottages provide a cosy retreat for the weary traveller. Old buildings have been restored to attract tourists and relocators.

Hellfire Club (comics)

The Hellfire Club is a fictional society appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Hellfire Club often comes into confrontation with the mutant superhero team, the X-Men. Although the Club appears to merely be an international social club for wealthy elites, its clandestine Inner Circle seeks to influence world events, in accordance with their own agenda.

Created by the Uncanny X-Men writer/artist duo of Chris Claremont and John Byrne, they were heavily influenced by a 1966 episode of the British television series The Avengers ("A Touch of Brimstone"). The name "Hellfire Club" in fact has a historical precedent, having been a popular name for gentlemen's clubs in the 18th century. Additionally, the hierarchy of the Inner Circle is modeled on the pieces of a chess set, with Black and White sets of Kings, Queens, Bishops and Rooks.

The Hellfire Club and its Inner Circle were introduced in "The Dark Phoenix Saga", attempting to subvert the X-Men's Jean Grey. This incarnation, composed most notably of Black King Sebastian Shaw and White Queen Emma Frost, would remain prominent for many years. After their initial confrontations, the Hellfire Club and the X-Men settled into an uneasy alliance. This eventually changed as endless power struggles perpetuated a series of upheavals within the Inner Circle. The club has appeared in two X-Men animated series (X-Men: The Animated Series and Wolverine and the X-Men), both times being renamed as simply The Inner Circle, due to the hesitations to use the word Hellfire in animated children series. Members of the Hellfire Club appeared in 2011's X-Men: First Class as the main villains, led by Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost.
