Labor Party (Mexico)

The Labor Party (Spanish: Partido del Trabajo, PT) is a political party in Mexico. It was founded on December 8, 1990. The party is currently led by Alberto Anaya.

The PT's roots lay in a network of community organizations formed by Maoist activists. The party first participated in federal elections in 1991, but it failed to win 1.5 percent of the vote (the amount necessary to be recognized as a national party). In 1994, Rosario Ybarra, the prominent activist, became the presidential candidate but later declined in favor of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas.

In 1998 the PT allied with the larger Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) for the first time in the state of Zacatecas. In the 2000 elections, the party took part in the PRD-led Alliance for the Good of All. As part of the Alliance, it won 7 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 1 seat in the Senate.

The PT ran separately from the PRD in the 2003 elections for the Chamber of Deputies. The party won 2.4 percent of the popular vote and 6 out of 500 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

Labor Party (Indonesia)

The Labor Party (Indonesian: Partai Buruh) is a political party in Indonesia. It has its origins in the Indonesian Prosperous Laborers organization (SBSI), which in 1993 threw its support behind the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) as a vehicle for its political aspirations. When the PDI split in 1996, it allied itself with the breakaway faction led by Megawati Sukarnoputri, which led to it coming under pressure from the New Order government of president Suharto. On 30 July 1996, SBSI chairman Muchtar Pakpahan was detained on subversion charges. Following the fall of Suharto in 1998, the SBSI became disillusions with Megawati's now renamed Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle and in 2001 decided to establish its own party, the Social Democrat Labor Party (Partai Buruh Sosial Demokrat). The party stood in the 2004 Indonesian legislative election, but won only 0.6 percent of the vote and no legislative seats. Party chairman However, the party has 12 representatives in provincial assemblies. The party subsequently changed its name to the Labor Party.

Labour Party (Lithuania)

The Labour Party (Lithuanian: Darbo Partija, DP) is a centre-leftpopulistpolitical party in Lithuania. The party was founded in 2003 by the Russian-born millionaire businessman Viktor Uspaskich.

In its first electoral test, the 2004 European Parliamentary Elections, it was by far the most successful party gaining 30.2% of the vote and returning 5 MEPs. It joined the European Democratic Party and thus the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Group. At the 2004 legislative elections, the party won 28.4% of the popular vote and 39 out of 141 seats, making it the largest single party in the Parliament of Lithuania. After the election Labour formed a coalition government with the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania and New Union.

At the legislative elections of 2008 the party that had entered into a coalition with the Youth party lost heavily, retaining only 10 seats in the Seimas from its previous 39 and obtaining 9% of the national vote. As its other coalition partner, New Union (Social Liberals) also lost heavily, the coalition they were forming with the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania collapsed. The party was left in opposition after a new centre-right coalition, led by Andrius Kubilius who became prime minister for a second time, and formed of Homeland Union, National Resurrection Party and Liberals' Movement of the Republic of Lithuania took over, gaining a combined governmental majority of 72 out of 141 seats.

Mexico, Missouri

Mexico is a city in Audrain County, Missouri, United States. The population was 11,543 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Audrain County. The Mexico Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of Audrain County. Mexico hosts the annual Miss Missouri Pageant; the winner goes on to represent the state of Missouri in the Miss America pageant.

History

Mexico was laid out as "New Mexico" in 1836 and was a major stop for settlers heading to the Republic of Texas (thus the name New Mexico), and it became the county seat under its present name in 1837. The word "New" was dropped out after the Mexican–American War that saw Texas become a part of the United States.

There is an apocryphal story concerning the name. When a University of Missouri student, who was questioned on radio, was unable to give an account of her hometown's name, the question was put to L. Mitchell White, then editor and publisher of the Mexico Ledger: "'The first settlers found a wooden sign along the trail. It pointed southwest, and on it had been painted Mexico.'" To avoid unnecessary labor, the sign was left in place. "It was easier to call their town 'Mexico' than to take down the old sign."

Mexico (barque)

Mexico was a barque that was wrecked off Southport on 9 December 1886. She was repaired only to be lost in Scottish waters in 1890.

Shipwreck

On 9 December 1886, the Mexico was on its way from Liverpool to Guayaquil, Ecuador when it was caught in a storm. Lifeboats were launched from Lytham, St. Annes and Southport to rescue the crew. The Lytham lifeboat Charles Biggs, which was on her maiden rescue, rescued the twelve crew but both the St. Annes lifeboat Laura Janet and the Southport lifeboat Eliza Fernley were capsized, and 27 of the 29 crew were drowned. To date, this is the worst loss of RNLI crew in a single incident.Mexico came ashore off Birkdale, opposite the Birkdale Palace Hotel.

Aftermath

Sixteen women were left widows, and fifty children lost their fathers. Queen Victoria and the Kaiser sent their condolences to the families of the lifeboatmen. An appeal was launched to raise money to provide a memorial to those killed, and the organisation by Sir Charles Macara of the first street collections in Manchester in 1891 led to the first flag days. The disaster has a permanent memorial in Lytham St. Annes lifeboat house. An appeal has been launched by the Lytham St. Annes Civic Society for the restoration of four of the memorials.

Mexico (EP)

Mexico is a mini-LP and the 3rd album of the German Hard rock band Böhse Onkelz. It was released in 1985. After "Mexico" the band left Rock-O-Rama and the skinhead attitude.

After "Frankreich '84" was embargoed, the band wrote a new song according the 1986 FIFA World Cup. "Señoritas in arm, Tequila lukewarm / troubled by diarrhea and hunted by flies / In the land of the cactus, we will be - you will see - world champion, world champion again." Mexico is one of the biggest countries. The song is often sung by German soccer fans by matches, so for example at the World Cup match Germany - Sweden in 2006.
