La Cruz is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. The municipal seat lies at La Cruz. The municipality covers an area of 1,035.9 km².

As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 3,982, up from 3,844 as of 2005.

As of 2010, the town of La Cruz had a population of 1,671. Other than the town of La Cruz, the municipality had 65 localities, none of which had a population over 1,000.

La Cruz is a small city in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. It stands at 23°55′17″N 106°53′31″W / 23.92139°N 106.89194°W / 23.92139; -106.89194. The city reported 15,657 inhabitants in the 2010 census.

La Cruz de Elota is the common name, it's called this way, because is dependent of Elota municipality, this place is the town hall and there are commercial shops and schools, near there is beach area, better known as Ceuta's Beach is located 8 km from La Cruz.

La Cruz is located between Culiacan (capital city) and Mazatlan (harbor city). This are cities main of Sinaloa state, Culiacan is north with a distance of 120 km (74.5 miles) and Mazatlan is south with a distance of 100 km (62 miles approximately).

Sinaloa ( sinaˈloa ), officially Free and Sovereign State of Sinaloa (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Sinaloa), is one of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, compose the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 18 municipalities and its capital city is Culiacán Rosales.

It is located in Northwestern Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Sonora to the north, Chihuahua and Durango to the east (separated from them by the Sierra Madre Occidental) and Nayarit to the south. To the west, Sinaloa has a significant share of coastline on the Gulf of California.

The state covers an area of 57,377 square kilometers (22,153 sq mi), and includes the Islands of Palmito Verde, Palmito de la Virgen, Altamura, Santa María, Saliaca, Macapule and San Ignacio.

In addition to the capital city, the state's important cities include Mazatlán and Los Mochis.

History

Prior to the coming of the Spaniards, much of Sinaloa was inhabited by the Cáhita peoples.

In 1531, Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán with a force of over 10,000 men, defeated a force of 30,000 Cahíta warriors at the site of Culiacán. Beltrán de Guzmán established a Spanish and allied Indian outpost at San Miguel de Culiacán. Over the next decade, the Cahíta suffered severe depopulation from smallpox and other diseases the Spanish brought.

Dorados de Sinaloa

Club Social y Deportivo Dorados de Sinaloa, or simply Dorados, is a Mexican professional football club based in the city of Culiacán.

The club plays its home games in Culiacán, Sinaloa, in the northwest of Mexico. Dorados was the youngest franchise to play in the Primera División de México, having joined the division for the first time for the Apertura 2004 tournament, when Dorados was only one year old. In the Clausura 2006 tournament Dorados was relegated to Primera División A when their rival San Luis F.C. maintained in the Primera División de México. Dorados reclaimed glory as the team reached the Clausura 2007 championship on May 19, 2007 defeating Club León with an aggregate score of 5-4. They were then able to play for a spot in the Mexican First Division facing Puebla F.C. but went on to lose the two-legged series by an aggregate score of 4-3. Later, in the Apertura 2007 tournament Dorados earned their way to the league final for second time in one year, although, Indios de Ciudad Juárez, the rivals, obtained the victory of the two legged series by 7-0. After the second game of the Clausura 2008 tournament, the Dorados board of directors and the former manager, Hugo Fernandez, made an agreement to end their contract, and signed the return of Juan Carlos Chavez who was the man to ascend the franchise to the Primera División de México in the summer of 2004. In 2008, Dorados broke a record of three consecutive finals in Primera División A, to Dorados' dismay, they lost this final 3-2 against their archival Club León. This victory was a form of retribution now that they made up for losing to Dorados last year.
