Lynx Blue Line

The LYNX Blue Line is a light rail line in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It commenced service on November 24, 2007 as the first rail line of the Charlotte Area Transit System. The 9.6 miles (15.4 km) line runs from its northern terminus in Uptown, traversing South End and paralleling South Boulevard to its southern terminus just north of Interstate 485 at the Pineville city limits. It is the first major rapid rail service of any kind in North Carolina, and began operating seventy years after a previous Charlotte streetcar system was disbanded in 1938, in favor of motorized bus transit. The system officially opened for service on Saturday, November 24, 2007, and as part of its opening celebration fares were not collected. Regular service with fare collection commenced on Monday, November 26, 2007. There are 20 stations in the system, the light rail portion of which carries an average of over 15,800 passenger trips every day.

An extension of the Blue line, the Blue Line Extension (originally the "Northeast Corridor") has been under construction from the fall of 2013. It will connect directly with the existing Blue Line at the 7th Street station in Uptown Charlotte, and will serve University City and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, following a northeast path along the existing Norfolk Southern right-of-way along both North Davidson Street and North Tryon Street. The extension is scheduled to open by August 2017.

  • Ice hockey rink

An ice hockey rink is an ice rink that is specifically designed for ice hockey, a team sport. Alternatively it is used for other sports such as broomball, ringette and rink bandy. It is rectangular with rounded corners and surrounded by a wall approximately 1 meter (40-48 inches) high called the boards.

    Name origins

Rink, a Scots word meaning 'course', was used as the name of a place where another game, curling, was played. Early in its history, ice hockey was played mostly on rinks constructed for curling. The name was retained after hockey-specific facilities were built.

    Dimensions

There are two standard sizes for hockey rinks: one used primarily in North America, the other used in the rest of the world.

    International

Hockey rinks in most of the world follow the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) specifications, which is 61 metres (200 ft) × 30.5 metres (100 ft) with a corner radius of 8.5 metres (28 ft). The distance from the end boards to the nearest goal line is 4 metres (13 ft). The distance from each goal line to the nearest blue line is 17.3 metres (57 ft). The distance between the two blue lines is also 17.3 metres (57 ft).

    Blue Line (Montreal Metro)

The Blue Line (French: Ligne bleue) is one of the four lines of the Montreal Metro in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was the fourth to be built, notwithstanding its alternate official name of "Line 5" (Line 3 was planned, but never built). Unlike the other three routes, the Blue Line does not serve the city's main Metro station, Berri-UQAM.

The line is served by a single yard located between Parc and de Castelnau stations which is completely underground and occupies a small portion underneath Jarry Park. Another service facility is located at the 500-metre end tracks following Snowdon station, but is rarely used by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM).

On September 20, 2013, an 7-km extension north-east to St. Leonard and Anjou was announced by the STM and the Quebec government. The extension is to include five new stations and is planned to be operational by 2020. On May 28, 2014, it was announced that the project would be reviewed in priorities after the new government took over, and that if accepted again, construction would start in 2017.

    Blue Line

    by: Stephen Fearing

Ten long years I’ve lived within this town
Ten years since I put my suitcase down
Ten years since I stopped my endless roaming
And roots began to grow beneath my heels
Now my shadow’s finally come around
It blew in from the northeast on a boiling thundercloud
It took me ten long years to recognize the face that holds me down
And suffocates my body in my darkest hour
    Chorus
Just a baby, and my father knew it well
My Father always taught me that good kids never tell
And no one dared to ask me why I lay awake at night
My arms so still beside me as he turned out the lights
    Turn out the lights
I have kept this secret far too long
Buried with my childhood as the years have come and gone
And though I’ve stopped my running now so far away from home
It’s only coming clear to me what I was running from
And I still cannot believe it to this day
For I have kept this secret and denied my youth away
And my family is too frightened now to look into my eyes
There’s a child behind the adult they would surely recognize
    Chorus
They tell you time will wash away the tears
They say time will tied you over ‘til the horror disappears
But time has tricked me deeply and caused me to believe
That out of sight is out of mind
And out of mind is healed
Now I will forgive myself for shame
Forgive myself for being small and helpless in my pain
For forgiveness is the only road to lead the spirit home
And I will be a child forever more
Yes and we will be children forever more
