LNFA 2012

The 2012 LNFA season was the 18th season of top-tier American football in Spain. The regular season was played from January 29, 2012 until the end of may, 2012.

L'Hospitalet Pioners won their 5th LNFA title and the third in a row.

System change

The competition system was changed for this season. The top six teams from the previous season were included in a new conference, called LNFA Elite, and only those were able to play for the title. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams of the LNFA Elite (Rivas Osos, L'Hospitalet Pioners, Valencia Firebats and Badalona Dracs) played a single-elimination tournament for the title. 5th place's team of the LNFA Elite (Barberà Rookies) went into another single-elimination game against the team placed 2nd within the other conferences' sudden death tournament (Valencia Giants) to determine which of the two will play at the LNFA Elite next season, while 6th place's team of the LNFA Elite (Sueca Ricers) will be replaced by the winner of the other conferences' sudden death tournament (Las Rozas Black Demons).

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Americano

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Americano (LNFA) is the name of the top american football league which operates in Spain. It was founded in 1995 after the merge of several previous Spanish competitions.

The league is run by the Spanish Federation of American Football (Federación Española de Futbol Americano (FEFA) in Spanish language).

At the end of the season, league's champion and runner up clinch bids to compete at next year's European Football League, while third and fourth teams classify for the EFAF Cup.

There has been changes in the number of teams throughout the years. Since 2015, teams are divided into three categories: Serie A, with the top six teams, second tier Serie B with 10 teams compiting in 2 conferences, and Serie C, with regional and interregional leagues.

LNFA Bowl appearances

LNFA Serie B

The Serie B is the second division of the LNFA. It was created in 2012 and named originally as LNFA while the top league was called LNFA Elite. In 2014, it changed the name to Serie B.

2015–16 LNFA season

The 2015–16 LNFA season will be the 22nd season of American football in Spain. Valencia Firebats are the defending champions.

Teams are divided into three categories, named Serie A, B and C, with promotion and relegation between them.

LNFA Serie A

Stadia and locations

Six teams entered the LNFA Serie A, the top-tier level of American football in Spain. Rivas Osos, Valencia Firebats, Valencia Giants and Badalona Dracs repeated from last year. Barberà Rookies and Reus Imperials were promoted from last year LNFA Serie B.

On December 28, the three teams from the Community of Madrid (Rivas Osos from Serie A, Camioneros Coslada and Las Rozas Black Demons from Serie B) were excluded from the competition as they did not have a junior team in the junior league.

Regular season

LNFA Serie B

Seven teams will play the Serie B in 2016. L'Hospitalet Pioners and Mallorca Voltors were relegated from previous Serie A season. Gijón Mariners were promoted from Serie C in 2015.

The nine original teams were reduced to seven on December 28, when the Spanish Federation of American Football excluded the two teams from the Community of Madrid (Las Rozas Black Demons and Camioneros Coslada) arguing that they did not have junior teams in the junior league, one of the criteria to play the Serie A or B.

LNFA 2010

The 2010 season of the LNFA was the 16th season of top-tier American football in Spain. In the 2010 season the league expanded to 15 teams, divided into three conferences of five teams each. The Conferencia Española included the five top teams of the 2009 season. At the end of the regular season, the top two of the Conferencia Española acceded directly to the semifinals for the title, and faced the winners of the playoff between wild cards.
