L. B. Nagar

Lal Bahadur Nagar, well known as L.B.Nagar, is a commercial and residential hub in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It was once a Municipality in Ranga Reddy district. It is the main entrance for Hyderabad.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, L.B. Nagar had a population of 261,987. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. L.B. Nagar has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 69%. In L.B. Nagar, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Commercial area

L.B.Nagar is one among the many major commercial centers of Hyderabad. It is located at the crossroads of the main city and its new international airport.

Hotel Sitara Grand, Hotel Abhinand Grand and Hotel Swagath serve as prime hotels, restaurants and banquet halls. BVK Multiplex (Vijaya Lakshmi theatre L.B.Nagar) and Vishnu are the movie theatres, primarily screening Telugu cinema.

Religious Places

A huge Hindu temple complex with temples for Lord Shiva Temple In Sirinagar Colony, sri Rama,Hanuman, Shiva, Krishna, Durga, Saibaba etc. is present on the main road. There are several other temples in the colonies like a Shiva and Saibaba temple in Central Bank Colony, Venkateswara temple in Saraswati Nagar.

Lynton and Barnstaple Railway

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (L&B) opened as an independent railway in May 1898. It was a single track, 1 ft 11 ¹⁄₂ in (597 mm) narrow gauge railway and was slightly over 19 miles (31 km) long running through the rugged and picturesque area bordering Exmoor in North Devon, England. Although opened after the 1896 Light Railways Act came into force, it was authorised and constructed prior to that act. Therefore, as with all other railways, it was authorised under its own Act of Parliament and built to higher (and more costly) standards than similar railways of the time. In the United Kingdom it was notable as being the only narrow gauge line required to use main-line standard signalling. For a short period the line earned a modest return for shareholders, but for most of its life the L&B made a loss. In 1922 the L&B was taken over by the Southern Railway, and eventually closed in September 1935.

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Association was formed in 1979; and a short section was reopened to passengers in 2004. This was extended in 2006; and the following year plans were announced to open 9 miles (14 km) of track, linking the station at Woody Bay to both Lynton (at a new terminus on an extension to the original line, closer to the town) and Blackmoor Gate, and to a new station at Wistlandpound Reservoir. The present track is now 600 mm (1 ft 11 ⁵⁄₈ in) narrow gauge.

Lyman-alpha blob 1

Lyman-alpha blob 1 (LAB-1) is a giant cosmic cloud of gas located at the southern constellation of Aquarius, some 11.5 billion light-years from Earth with a redshift (z) of 3.09. It was discovered unexpectedly in 2000 by Charles Steidel and colleagues, who were surveying for high-redshift galaxies using the 200 inch (5.08 m) Hale telescope at the Palomar Observatory. The researchers had been investigating the abundance of galaxies in the young Universe when they came across two objects which would become known as Lyman-alpha blobs—huge concentrations of gases emitting the Lyman-alpha emission line of hydrogen.

LAB-1 is the first discovered Lyman-alpha blob, hence it has the number 1. It is the prototype of objects of this kind. It is also the largest of its kind, measuring 300,000 light years across, three times larger than the Milky Way. The blob appears green on the image because of the combination of the high redshift (z = 3) and the ultraviolet nature of the blob. Imaging with the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope showed that much of the light from the blob is polarized, the proportion increasing and peaking at around 20% at a radius of 45 kiloparsecs (145,000 light-years), forming a huge ring around the blob.
