Expansion (geometry)

In geometry, expansion is a polytope operation where facets are separated and moved radially apart, and new facets are formed at separated elements (vertices, edges, etc.). Equivalently this operation can be imagined by keeping facets in the same position but reducing their size.

The expansion of a regular polytope creates a uniform polytope, but the operation can be applied to any convex polytope, as demonstrated for polyhedra in Conway polyhedron notation. For polyhedra, an expanded polyhedron has all the faces of the original polyhedron, all the faces of the dual polyhedron, and new square faces in place of the original edges.

Expansion of regular polytopes

According to Coxeter, this multidimensional term was defined by Alicia Boole Stott for creating new polytopes, specifically starting from regular polytopes to construct new uniform polytopes.

The expansion operation is symmetric with respect to a regular polytope and its dual. The resulting figure contains the facets of both the regular and its dual, along with various prismatic facets filling the gaps created between intermediate dimensional elements.

Expansion (album)

Expansion is a live album released by jazz pianist Dave Burrell. It was recorded during a number of concerts in December 2003 and was released on June 8, 2004 by High Two.

The group that Burrell toured with was referred to as the Full-Blown Trio and included Burrell, Andrew Cyrille (drums) and William Parker (bass).

Allmusic calls the album "a lovely record ... by a trio versed in understatement and nuance." Reviewer Thom Jurek in particular comments on Burrell's playing by saying that his "fills between the lyric lines are humorous, warm, and dazzling."The Penguin Guide to Jazz also mention that the three men "gel perfectly" and they provide him with the most flattering context for years."

L'Expansion is a French monthly business magazine based in Paris, France.

History and profile

L'Expansion was founded by Jean-Louis Servan-Schreiber and Jean Boissonnat in 1967. In 1994 the magazine was relaunched and was published on a fortnightly basis in the 1990s.

It is part of the Roularta Media Group, which also owns the magazines, L'Express, Lire, and L'Étudiant among the others. The headquarters of L'Expansion is in Paris. The magazine is published by Groupe Express Roularta on a monthly basis and provides articles on economic and financial news.

The 2006 paid circulation for L'Expansion was 160,514. During the 2007-2008 period the magazine had a circulation of 161,000 copies. Its circulation was 150,076 copies in 2010.
