L'Amore (film)

L'Amore (1948) is an Italian anthology film directed by Roberto Rossellini starring Anna Magnani and Federico Fellini.

The film opened to considerable controversy in the United States, which led to a lengthy legal dispute, Joseph Burstyn, Inc. v. Wilson, that ended up in the Supreme Court of the United States that ruled in 1952 that film as a form of expression was protected under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Production background

The film has two parts: "Il Miracolo" ("The Miracle") and "Una Voce Umana" ("The Human Voice"). The latter is based on a French play The Human Voice (La Voix humaine, 1930) by Jean Cocteau. Rossellini and Fellini co-wrote "Il Miracolo", and Rossellini adapted Cocteau's play. Magnani appears in both segments.

The film was first exhibited in Europe in 1948, starting in Italy. Magnani was awarded the Nastro d'Argento (Silver Ribbon) in 1949 for best actress for her performance in the film.

In the United States, the film, renamed Ways of Love with English subtitles, was first exhibited in New York City in November 1950. In December, Ways of Love was voted the best foreign language film of 1950 by the New York Film Critics Circle. The film was condemned by the National Legion of Decency in 1951 and became a catalyst for a Supreme Court decision on censorship and First Amendment freedom of speech issues.

L'amore is the debut single of Sonohra, with which they won the Sanremo Music Festival 2008 in the category "Giovani".

The lyrics were written by Luca Fainello together with their producer Roberto Tini, while the music was arranged by Diego Fainello.

The single debuted in the charts of digital downloads on the Italian iTunes directly at the 6th spot the week after their victory at Sanremo.

The video of the song was filmed in Ireland on the Cliffs of Moher, by the director Antonella Schioppa.

During and interview given by Radio Touring 104 a few days before the Sanremo Music Festival 2008, Luca Fainello revealed that the song talked of a love between him and an English girl he met while they were still playing in pubs before their music became known. A few days after having met her, the girl returned to England and Luca lost contact with her.

This song has been translated into Spanish and released on Sonohra's Spanish CD Libres with the title Buscando L'amor. It has also been translated into English with the title Love is Here and released on the Brazilian CD Love Show and the Japanese CD L'Amore
