Maestro

Maestro (/ˈmaɪstroʊ/; Italian: [maˈestro]) (from the Italian maestro, meaning "master" or "teacher") is an honorific title of respect. The term is most commonly used in the context of Western classical music and opera, in line with the ubiquitous use of Italian musical terms.

The word maestro is most often used in addressing or referring to conductors. Less frequently, one might refer to respected composers, performers, impresarios, and music teachers. In the world of Italian opera, the term is also used for musicians who act as répétiteurs and assistant conductors during performances (maestro sostituto or maestro collaboratore). Even the prompter (maestro suggeritore) may be referred to by this title.

Usage outside music

By extension, it is used in English to designate a master in an artistic field, usually someone with strong knowledge who instructs others in the field, though the term may sometimes be conferred through sheer respect for an artist's works. The word is sometimes used in fine arts such as painting and sculpture, though their "master", as in Old Master, is far more common. Maestro is used in the sport of fencing, for a fencing instructor, and may be used in other sports to convey respect for an individual's skill.

Maestro (rapper)

Wesley Williams (born March 31, 1968 in Toronto, Ontario), better known as Maestro and Maestro Fresh-Wes, is a Canadian rapper, record producer, and actor. His pioneering status and outstanding achievements have led to him being referred to as the "Godfather of Canadian hip hop".

In 1989 he became the first Canadian rapper to have a Top 40 hit, "Let Your Backbone Slide". In 1991 he collaborated on the one-off single "Can't Repress the Cause", a plea for greater inclusion of hip hop music in the Canadian music scene, with Dance Appeal, a supergroup of Toronto-area musicians that included Devon, Dream Warriors, B-Kool, Michie Mee, Lillian Allen, Eria Fachin, HDV, Dionne, Thando Hyman, Carla Marshall, Messenjah, Jillian Mendez, Lorraine Scott, Lorraine Segato, Self Defense, Leroy Sibbles, Zama and Thyron Lee White.

After the success of his 1991 album, The Black Tie Affair, Maestro's career faltered as he attempted to break into the United States market. However, he returned to the Canadian charts in 1998, with the hit singles "Stick to Your Vision" and "416/905 (T.O. Party Anthem)".

Maestro (TV channel)

Maestro (Georgian: მაესტრო) is a Georgian television channel launched in February 1995, located in Tbilisi.

Satellite dishes' affair

On July 2 Maestro TV announced that one of its co-owners and its financial backer, Maka Asatiani, was planning significant investments for further development of the television channel. The TV channel is available through some cable providers mainly in Tbilisi and via satellite. As part of the efforts to broaden scope of audience, Maestro TV said earlier that month, it was planning to launch a campaign ‘Maestro in Every Family’, involving “handing out” satellite dish antennas to households in the provinces. The satellite dishes were seized as part of an investigation into vote-buying scheme allegedly orchestrated by Bidzina Ivanishvili and for which the billionaire opposition politician was fined with GEL 63.1 million. Though, Bacho Kikabidze, general director of Maestro TV, denied having links with Ivanishvili-affiliated companies or with the politics and said the allegation by the chief prosecutor’s office was “absurd”. One of Maestro TV's co-owners, Mamuka Glonti, also said that satellite dishes were to sold rather than hand out freely, so they could not have been involved in vote-buying process.

Kyrie

Kyrie, a transliteration of Greek Κύριε (Kyrie), vocative case of Κύριος (Kyrios), on whose meaning see Kyrios (biblical term), is a common name of an important prayer of Christian liturgy, also called the Kyrie eleison /ˈkɪəri.eɪ ᵻˈleɪ.ᵻsɒn/ (Greek: Κύριε, ἐλέησον, Kýrie eléison).

In Eastern Christianity

Τhe phrase Kýrie, eléison (Greek: Κύριε, ἐλέησον) or one of its equivalents in other languages is one of the most oft-repeated phrases in Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine-Rite Eastern Christianity.

The various litanies, frequent in that rite, generally have Lord, have mercy as their response, either singly or triply. Some petitions in these litanies will have twelve or even forty repetitions of the phrase as a response.

The phrase is the origin of the Jesus Prayer, beloved by Christians of that rite and increasingly popular amongst Western Christians.

The prayer is simultaneously a petition and a prayer of thanksgiving; an acknowledgment of what God has done, what God is doing, and what God will continue to do. It is refined in the Parable of The Publican (Luke 18:9-14), "God, have mercy on me, a sinner", which shows more clearly its connection with the Jesus Prayer.

Heroscape

Heroscape (stylized as "heroScape" or "HeroScape") is an expandable turn-based miniature wargaming system originally manufactured by Milton Bradley Company, and later by Wizards of the Coast, both subsidiaries of Hasbro, Inc., and discontinued by Hasbro in November 2010. The game is played using pre-painted miniature figures on a board made from interlocking hexagonal tiles that allow for construction of a large variety of 3D playing boards. The game is often noted and lauded by fans for the relatively high production quality of the game materials, in particular the pre-painted miniature figures as well as its interchangeable and variable landscape system.

History

Heroscape was released in 2004. The game designers are Craig Van Ness, Rob Daviau, and Stephen Baker at Hasbro Games. Hasbro's subsidiary, Milton Bradley, also developed HeroQuest and Battle Masters. Heroscape is designed for 2 or more players ages 8 and older, although it can easily be adapted to more players, particularly if more than one master set and expansion sets are used. There are additional expansion sets that can be purchased (see: Master Sets and Expansion Sets, below).

Kyrie (album)

Kyrie is a double album by Italian singer Mina released in 1980 as "Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2". On this album Mina experiments with various genres, especially rock. The cover of the album features Mina's son Massimiliano Pani dressed as a hockey player.

The Album

"Musica", the opening track expresses a feeling of renewal. The use of the synthesizer and Mina’s voice creates an almost futuristic sound, a rarefied atmospheric sound.

This atmosphere sound collides with the roughness of "You Keep Me Hangin' On". On this track Mina sings with a richer and gravely and coarse tone, creating a roughness to this remake of a classic song.

With "Quatt’ore ‘e tiempo" and we have one of the few moments more classic and traditional. The lyrics tell of a sequence of images that chases almost dancing in the rhythm of the melody. Neapolitan drama away from the usual melodic Neapolitan, the song is a free implementation of the famous “Pietà Signor” composed by Alessandro Stradella.

"Chi sarà" is the composition by Simon Luca. The melody is charming and the simplicity of both the music and lyrics make for a great song. The layering of Mina’s voice adds an interesting layer to the production of the song.
