Southern Tenant Farmers Union

The Southern Tenant Farmers' Union (STFU) was founded in 1934 as a civil farmer's union to further organize the tenant farmers in the Southern United States.

Originally set up during the Great Depression in the United States, the reasons for the establishment of the STFU are numerous, although they are all largely centered upon money and working conditions. Predominantly, the STFU was established as a response to policies of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA). The AAA itself was designed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to help revive the United States' agricultural industry and to recharge the depressed economy.

The AAA called for a reduction in food production, which would, through a controlled shortage of food, raise the price for any given food item through supply and demand. The desired effect was that the agricultural industry would once again prosper due to the increased value and produce more income for farmers. In order to decrease food production, the AAA would pay farmers not to farm and the money would go to the landowners. The landowners were expected to share this money with the tenant farmers. While a small percentage of the landowners did share the income, the majority did not. This led to the formation of the STFU, whose existence serves historically as evidence that such a problem existed.

Melina Perez

Melina Perez (born March 9, 1979) is an American professional wrestler, valet, model and actress. She is best known for her time with World Wrestling Entertainment under the ring name Melina.

Perez began her career as a beauty pageant contestant, winning several modelling competitions.

In 2000, Perez began training to be a professional wrestler at Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks, and made her debut in 2002. In late 2002, Perez auditioned for World Wrestling Entertainment's reality show Tough Enough III, but was eliminated in first round, and was inspired by Al Snow to continue pursuing her wrestling career. In March 2004, Perez signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE's developmental territory, where she began managing Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury, dubbed MNM, to three reigns as WWE Tag Team Champions, as well as Nitro to two reigns as WWE Intercontinental Champion. Perez is a three-time WWE Women's Champion, and a two-time WWE Divas Champion. After winning her second WWE Divas Championship, Perez became the first woman in WWE history to become a multiple-time champion with both the Women's and Divas titles. Famed for her flexibility, utilized during her entrance and in her in-ring maneuvers, Perez was called "one of the best wrestlers in the world" by Bret Hart, and cited by WWE as having "perhaps the most impressive arsenal of offensive maneuvers in WWE history."

KYRA is a commercial radio station in Thousand Oaks, California, broadcasting primarily to the Conejo and Simi Valley areas on 92.7 FM.

KYZA is a commercial radio station in Adelanto, California, broadcasting to the Victor Valley, California area on 92.7 FM.

The three stations are a trimulcast Los Angeles-area affiliate of the nationally syndicated Christian Rock network, Air1.

History

KYRA

KYRA signed on in 1963 with the call letters KNJO, broadcasting from a studio in the Park Oaks shopping center in Thousand Oaks, California. KNJO stood for "Conejo", the valley in which the station was located. The station's claim to fame at the time was that it was the first FM radio station on the West Coast to broadcast in stereo. KNJO was a community radio station and featured local news, sports, and remote broadcasts from a variety of local events. The station was built by radio personality Sy Blonder and co-owned by Dodger baseball star Sandy Koufax and later purchased by Alan Fischler, Ed Feldman and Art Hogan; Ira Barmack (operator of KMDY Thousand Oaks [a comedy station]), political strategist/attorney Darry Srago, and finally the Amaturo Group. Studios moved to the Westlake Village North Ranch Mall, and today are located on Long Court in Thousand Oaks. Joe Amaturo and the Amaturo family purchased the station in the 1990s, and also purchased stations on the same frequency on Catalina Island and in Temecula. Eventually, they began a trimulcast, and changed the call letters of this station to KMLT when the station became Lite 92.7. The goal of the Amaturos has been to cover the entire Los Angeles/Orange County area with three stations on one frequency, 92.7 FM. Following the trimulcast's subsequent relaunches, the station became KHJL in 2007 and KLSI in 2012.
