Wallah may refer to:
The Kingdom of Waalo or Walo (formerly French: Oualo) was a kingdom on the lower Senegal River in West Africa, in what are now Senegal and Mauritania. It included parts of the valley proper and areas north and south, extending to the Atlantic Ocean. To the north were Moorish emirates; to the south was the kingdom of Cayor; to the east was Jolof.
Waalo had a complicated political and social system, which has a continuing influence on Wolof culture in Senegal today, especially its highly formalized and rigid caste system. The kingdom was indirectly hereditary, ruled by three matrilinial families: the Logar, the Tedyek and the Joos, all from different ethnic backgrounds. The Joos were of Serer origin. This Serer matriclan was established in Waalo by Lingeer Ndoye Demba of Sine. Her grandmother Lingeer Fatim Beye is the matriarch and early ancestor of this dynasty. These matrilinial families engaged in constant dynastic struggles to become "Brak" or king of Waalo, as well as warring with Waalo's neighbors. The royal title "Lingeer" means queen or royal princess, used by the Serer and Wolof.
Kwak or KWAK may refer to:
Kwak (郭 or 霍), spelled 곽 in hangul is a surname in Korea. The name can be traced as early as the Kim Silla kingdom. Today an estimated 187,000 people in Korea carry the name. They use the same Chinese character as the Guo/Kuo/Kwok of China. There are different transliterations of the name, but in South Korea, the emerging new spelling is Kwark, presumably following the lead of Park. Kwak is often mispronounced as Quack. Other variations of Kwak spelled by Koreans include Kwalk, Gwak, Kwark Kwalk, and Koak.
The Vietnamese use Quach. The Japanese use Kaku. The Chinese Indonesians use Kwik.
Kwak'wala (English /kwɑːˈkwɑːlə/), also known as Kwakiutl (English /ˈkwɑːkjʊtəl/), is the indigenous language spoken by the Kwakwaka'wakw (which means "those who speak Kwak'wala"). It belongs to the Wakashan language family. There are fewer than 200 fluent Kwak'wala speakers today, which amounts to 3% of the Kwakwaka'wakw population. Because of the small number of speakers, the fact that very few if any children learn Kwak'wala as a first language, and that most speakers are elders, its long-term viability is in question. However, interest from many Kwakwaka'wakw in preserving their language and a number of revitalization projects are countervailing pressures which may extend the viability of the language.
The ethnonym Kwakwaka'wakw means "speakers of Kwak'wala," effectively defining an ethnic connection between different tribes by reference to a shared language. However, the Kwak'wala spoken by each tribe exhibits dialectal differences, which may be quite significant in some cases. There are four major unambiguous dialects of Kwak'wala: Kwak̓wala, ’Nak̓wala, G̱uc̓ala and T̓łat̓łasik̓wala.
