Kurt Andersen

Kurt Andersen (born August 22, 1954) is an American novelist who is also host of the Peabody-winning public radio program Studio 360, a co-production between Public Radio International and WNYC.

Journalism

Andersen was born in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Westside High School. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, where he edited the Harvard Lampoon. In 1986 with E. Graydon Carter he co-founded Spy magazine, which they sold in 1991; it continued publishing until 1998. He has been a writer and columnist for New York ("The Imperial City"), The New Yorker ("The Culture Industry"), and Time ("Spectator"). Gene Shalit, in the acknowledgments to his 1987 book Laughing Matters, thanked Andersen, who "provided support, a keen mind, and essential advice, particularly during the crucial formative stages; tipped me off to some pieces unfamiliar to me ... ; and contributed the ... Afterword." He was also the architecture and design critic for Time for nine years.

In 1996, Bill Reilly fired Andersen after two and a half years from his position as editor-in-chief at New York, citing the publication's financial results. Andersen attributed the firing to his refusal to kill a story about a rivalry between investment bankers Felix Rohatyn and Steven Rattner that had upset Henry Kravis, the principal of the publishing firm's ownership group.

Kurt Anderson (American football)

Kurt Kristoffer Anderson (born August 8, 1978) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the offensive line coach at the University of Arkansas. Anderson played college football at the University of Michigan. After his playing career, Anderson became a professional football coach. He served as the assistant offensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL). In the 2015 season, Anderson took over head offensive line coaching duties for training camp and the first six weeks of the regular season for the suspended Aaron Kromer.

High school

Anderson attended Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois. He was a 1996 Parade All-American linebacker. He earned a full scholarship to The University of Michigan.

College career

Anderson was a two-year letterman on the offensive line (2000–2001) for the Wolverines and was the starting center. He received the Hugh R. Rader Jr. Memorial Award as the team's top offensive lineman and was selected All-Big Ten Conference by the conference coaches following the 2001 season. He was a member of the 1997 Michigan squad that won the 1998 Rose Bowl on the way to a national championship. He also playered in the 1999 Citrus Bowl, the 2000 Orange Bowl, the 2001 Florida Citrus Bowl, and the 2002 Florida Citrus Bowls. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL)in 2002.
