Kumkum Bhagya

Kumkum Bhagya (Soul Mate) is a Hindi-language Indian television soap opera which is broadcast by Zee TV, the series premiered on 15 April 2014. The show is loosely based on the novel Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The series stars Sriti Jha, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mrunal Thakur, and Arjit Taneja in the leading roles.

The show depicts the life of a Punjabi women Sarla Arora who runs a Marriage hall named Kumkum bhagya and lives with the hope of seeing her two daughters Pragya (Jha) and Bulbul (Mrunal Thakur) (who're poles apart) married. It also starts Shabbir Ahluwalia as Abhishek Mehra, a rockstar who is eventually married to Pragya. The series here depicts how the two face hurdles, difficulties and misunderstandings and pave way to fall in love. The series star Arjit Taneja as Purab and Mrunal Thakur as Bulbul who eventually fell in love before their marriage. Series show how there relationship bought Abhi and Pragya closer.

Series is produced by Ekta Kapoor under her banner Balaji Telefilms. Continuing her tradition, Ekta Kapoor has named the series starting with the letter "k" because she feels it is lucky. the show is directed by Sharad Pandey, and developed by Ekta Kapoor, the Producer won Best Television Show (Fiction) Award by 21st Lions Gold Awards 2015

Kumkuma

Kumkuma is a powder used for social and religious markings in India. It is either made from turmeric or any other local materials. The turmeric is dried and powdered with a bit of slaked lime, which turns the rich yellow powder into a red color.

In India, it is known by various names including kuṅkumam (Sanskrit कुङ्कुमम्), kumkuma (Telugu కుంకుమ, kunku (Marathi कुंकू), kumkum (Bengali কুমকুম, Hindi कुमकुम), kunkumam (Tamil குங்குமம்), Kannada ಕುಂಕುಮ ), Kungkumam (Malayalam കുങ്കുമം).

Application of kumkuma

Kumkuma is most often applied by Indians to the forehead. The reason for this particular location has to do with the ancient Indian belief that "the human body is divided into seven vortices of energy, called chakras, beginning at the base of the spine and ending at the top of the head. The sixth chakra, also known as the third eye, is centered in the forehead directly between the eyebrows and is believed to be the channel through which humankind opens spiritually to the Divine". Thus the kumkuma is placed at the location of the body which is believed by Indians to be the most holy.

Kumkum (actress)

Kumkum, born Zaibunnissa, is an Indian film actress from Hussainabad in Bihar. She acted in almost 115 films in her career. She is best known for her roles in Mother India (1957),Son Of India (1962), Kohinoor (1960), Ujala, Naya Daur, Shreeman Funtoosh, Ek Sapera Ek Lutera, Ganga Ki Laharen, Raja Aur Rank, Aankhen (1968), Lalkaar and Geet etc. She paired with many film heroes of her era and was popular in roles alongside Kishore Kumar.

Kumkum also acted in Bhojpuri films, starting with Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo (1963), which was also the first ever Bhojpuri film.

Career

Kumkum was discovered by Gurudutt. Gurudutt was to picturise a song "Kabhi aar kabhi paar laaga teere nazar" for his movie Aar Paar (1954) on his friend Jagdeep (father of Javed Jaffery, Naved Jaffery) but later decided to picturise this song on a female actor. But that time no one agreed to do a small song. Then Gurudutt finally picturised this song on Kumkum. Later Kumkum was seen in a small role in Pyasa ('57).

Kumkum (TV series)

Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan (Hindustani pronunciation: [ˈkʊmkʊm]; English: A lovely bond) was an Indian television soap opera that aired on STAR Plus channel. It remains one of the longest running serials on Indian television with a total of 1449 episodes aired over seven years.

The show aired worldwide from Monday to Friday afternoons. Its final episode was broadcast on 13 March 2009.

It was the fourth longest running serial in india after Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasauti Zindagi Kay.And it is also ranked 4 among most watched daily soaps on Indian television ever.

This era from 2000-2009 was the golden period on television. Kumkum was one of the most popular television serial at that time. And was a major TRP gainer for star plus at that time.

Plot summary

The soap opera tells the tale of the Wadhwa family and its daughter-in-law, Kumkum. She is happily married to Jatin. However, he dies of a brain tumor while she is expecting their first child. The Wadhwas decide to get their young daughter-in-law re-married, and find an eligible young man named Vishal. However, when obstacles arise to prevent that marriage, Jatin's younger brother Sumit impulsively marries Kumkum in order to save her from social disgrace. After this, Sumit and Kumkum come to the fact that both of them love each other very much and cannot think of living without each other. Kumkum had one son from Jatin. Jatin had one step brother and sister form his step-father. Now that Kumkum notices that her son doesn't like Sumit, whereas Sumit considers him just like his own son. So Kumkum decides to finish the bitter feeling between them.
