Krivošije (pronounced [kriv̞ɔ̌ʃijɛ]) is an Montenegrin clan and a high plateau on the eastern branches of Mount Orjen (1894 m) in Montenegro, near Kotor. A significant geological/geomorphological feature of the Krivošije region are the glacial deposits distributed across the whole of the plateau. They were deposited by valley glaciers coming from Orjen during the Ice age.
In Serbian language, krivi (in masculine, neutral krivo) means "bent" or "crooked", while šije (singular: šija) means "necks", and it may be derived from some ancestor with a deformity. It might also be derived from the Serbian word krv meaning blood, as in linked by blood relationships.
The mythical founder of the tribe was Grand Duke (Veliki knez) Krivošija.
This original surname can still be found in Dalmatia, Otisic, as Krivošija or the variant Krivošić, where some of the tribe emigrated, running away from persecution.
