Mnemonic

A mnemonic (RpE: /nəˈmɒnk/,AmE: /nɛˈmɑːnɪk/ the first "m" is silent), mnemonic device, or memory device is any learning technique that aids information retention in the human memory. Mnemonics aim to translate information into a form that the brain can retain better than its original form. Even the process of merely learning this conversion might already aid in the transfer of information to long-term memory. Commonly encountered mnemonics are often used for lists and in auditory form, such as short poems, acronyms, or memorable phrases, but mnemonics can also be used for other types of information and in visual or kinesthetic forms. Their use is based on the observation that the human mind more easily remembers spatial, personal, surprising, physical, sexual, humorous, or otherwise "relatable" information, rather than more abstract or impersonal forms of information.

The word "mnemonic" is derived from the Ancient Greek word μνημονικός (mnēmonikos), meaning "of memory, or relating to memory" and is related to Mnemosyne ("remembrance"), the name of the goddess of memory in Greek mythology. Both of these words are derived from μνήμη (mnēmē), "remembrance, memory". Mnemonics in antiquity were most often considered in the context of what is today known as the art of memory.

Mnemonic (band)

Mnemonic is an alternative rock band, formed as Mnemonic Groove in "Singapore" in 1997 and now based in London, England.

The band formed as a result of impromptu jam sessions and quickly released their debut album on the Angel J. Records label, entitled Non-Verbal Signs of Listening on 23 May 1997, and garnered international attention with the release of their cover of the U2 song, "The Ground Beneath Her Feet" in January 2000.

1996–1997: Mnemonic Groove

"Mnemonic Groove" was officially formed in Singapore after a series of jam sessions at "Boon Studios" in January 1997. Richard Das, Jonathan Skipp and Kiron Chahel had already performed in public at ad hoc concerts in Singapore during 1996 as an unnamed trio prior to collaborating with Aaron Jude Sequerah in January 1997.

The band name originated from picking words from a dictionary.

Their debut album, "Non-Verbal Signs of Listening" was released on 23 May 1997 culminating in a promotional live performance and album signings at "Boat Quay" in Singapore.

Mnemonic (play)

Mnemonic is a play created by the British theatre company Complicite. It uses several interrelated stories to explore the subject of memory.

Synopsis

Mnemonic begins with a lecture by the director, who encourages the audience to try to recall past memories. It then tells two parallel stories: in one, a man named Virgil tries to find his girlfriend, Alice, who has run away to Europe to hunt for her long-lost father; the other relates the discovery of Ötzi the Iceman, a 5,000-year-old mummified corpse. Through recurring images and situations the play draws parallels between these stories, focusing on the theme of the role of the imagination in recapturing the past.

Krieg (German for 'War') is a black metal band originally from Somers Point, New Jersey in the United States of America.

    Biography

The band formed in 1995, initially as Imperial, changing name to Krieg in 1997 to avoid confusion with other bands named Imperial. Krieg released their début album Rise of the Imperial Hordes in 1998 and also recorded a second studio album called Sono Lo Scherno, which was not released at the time. Some of the tracks were used on the split with Kult ov Azazel and the compilation The Black Plague.

In 2001, Krieg played with Godless North and Inquisition on the North American Black Metal Invasion tour through Germany, where they were supported by the German band Secrets of the Moon. At Krieg's show at Die Festung in Bitterfeld on 8 December 2001, Imperial dedicated his set to Kanwulf of Nargaroth, who was beaten up by NSBM band Absurd's vocalist Ronald Wolf Möbus for threatening to kill the latter's son (who was about one year old at the time). The show was recorded and released on the live EP Kill Yourself or Someone You Love.

    Krieg (song)

"Krieg" (War) is a song by Farin Urlaub Racing Team. It's the third single and the fifth track from the album Die Wahrheit übers Lügen. The song's themes are commercialism, character of big city people, supply and demand and dominating disposition to anger.

The song is sung in the perspective of a man from a big city, who decides to go shopping during a discount, however the demand is higher than supply, which leads to a fight for the products. In the second verse, the man is driving in his new car and a man behind him drives anxiously, flashes lights and honks the horn, probably trying to get past, to which the protagonist replies that he might not have many emotions (maybe three), but anger and wrath are two of them, so again a fight ensues.

    Music video

The video is set in New York City and features FURT playing only on a TV set on a window display of an electronics shop. The plot revolves around two living statues, of whose the second shown sets up a place right next to the first one and they start competing in a comical manner, which eventually leads to a weird mime-fight between them, until the "intruder" squirts the protagonist with a water pistol. The protagonist seemingly quits and leaves to get a hot dog, but soon returns and squirts the other with ketchup and mustard, which makes the intruder chase the protagonist.
