Kranti

Kranti (English: Revolution) is a 1981 Indian Hindi film produced and directed by Manoj Kumar. It stars Manoj Kumar along with a very large cast consisting of Dilip Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha, Parveen Babi, Sarika, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri and Paintal. The story was written by Javed Akhtar. The film marked the return of Dilip Kumar after a five year hiatus.

Synopsis

The film takes place in the 19th Century British India and is the story of the fight for independence from the British between 1825 to 1875. The film tells the story of men that lead the war against British Rule: Sanga (Dilip Kumar), Bharat (Manoj Kumar) known as Kranti, a prince (Shashi Kapoor) and a freedom fighter (Shatrughan Sinha). Sanga is an honest and dedicated employee in the kingdom of Ramgarh, owing allegiance and loyalty to no one except Raja Laxman Singh. When Laxman Singh conditionally permits the British to use the port for trading purposes, Sangha finds out that the British are taking out gold and jewellery and bringing in ammunition, and puts a stop to this. He goes to report this outrage to Laxman Singh, only to find him stabbed to death. Sanga is charged with treason and of killing Laxman Singh. Sentenced to death, he escapes and forms a group of revolutionaries who have only one goal - to drive the British out of India. This group multiplies into several armies, all united with one slogan - an Independent India, also known as Kranti.

Kranti (2006 film)

Kranti is a 2006 Bengali film directed by Riingo Banerjee and produced under the banner of Eskay Movies. The film features actors Jeet and Swastika Mukherjee in the lead roles. This film marks the directorial debut of Riingo Banerjee, who also composed the music for the film.

Plot

Jeet (Jeet) is a student whose family, consisting of his parents and elder sister Devashree (Locket Chatterjee), migrated to the city. Since their arrival, they have to struggle amongst the crowd to exist. People of the city fear Vishnu (Ashish Vidyarthi), the local don. His younger brother Deva (Rishi Kaushik) studies in the same college as that of Jeet. Deva's gang in the college are the biggest troublemakers, who tease girls and pass bad comments at them. Jeet, who tries to handle the situation, clashes with Deva's gang for a number of times and beats his gang members. In retaliation, Vishnu's goons start attacking his family members and friends. One day they spot Devashree on the road and assaults her. They rape her one by one in public. They also kill his intimate college friend Iqbal (Biswanath Basu) and finally kill his father (Bodhisatwa Majumdar). A helpless and heartbroken Jeet is left with nothing, but only a strong desire to punish the wrongdoers. He becomes determined to kill Vishnu. In the end, Jeet is successful in killing Deva and Vishnu, thus fulfilling his revenge.

Kranti (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Kranti (Vidhan Sabha constituency) was an assembly constituency in Jalpaiguri district in the Indian state of West Bengal. As a consequence of the order of the Delimitation Commission Kranti (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ceases to exist from 2011 and the new Dabgram-Phulbari (Vidhan Sabha constituency) comes into being.

1977-2006

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Fazlul Karim of CPI(M) won the Kranti assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Atul Roy, Independent. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Sudhan Raha of CPI(M) defeated Aburabbani Ahmed (Badshah) of Trinamool Congress in 2001, Subhash Das of Congress in 1996, Aftabul Alam of Congress in 1991, and Kallol Basu of Congress in 1987. Parimal Mitra of CPI(M) defeated Deba Prasad Roy of Congress in 1982 and Abdul Hasnat Mohammed Abu Saleque of Congress in 1977. The constituency was not there prior to that.
