Knut Alm

Knut Emil Willehard Alm (5 March 1889 – 3 June 1969) was a Swedish runner. He competed in cross-country events at the 1920 Summer Olympics and finished 30th individually. Although he was a member of the bronze medal winning Swedish cross country team, he did not receive a medal because only three best runners from each team were honored, while Hedwall was sixth.

Knut

Knut (Norwegian and Swedish), Knud (Danish), or Knútur (Icelandic) is a Scandinavian first name, of which the anglicised form is Cnut or Canute. In Germany both "Knut" and "Knud" are used. In Spanish and Portuguese Canuto is used which comes from the Latin version Canutus. The name is derived from the Old Norse Knútr meaning "knot".

It is the name of several medieval kings of Denmark, two of whom also reigned over England during the first half of the 11th century.

Knut (polar bear)

Knut (German pronunciation: [ˈknuːt]; 5 December 2006 – 19 March 2011) was an orphaned polar bear born in captivity at the Berlin Zoological Garden. Rejected by his mother at birth, he was raised by zookeepers. He was the first polar bear cub to survive past infancy at the Berlin Zoo in more than 30 years. At one time the subject of international controversy, he became a tourist attraction and commercial success. After the German tabloid newspaper Bild ran a quote from an animal rights activist that decried keeping the cub in captivity, fans worldwide rallied in support of his being hand-raised by humans. Children protested outside the zoo, and e-mails and letters expressing sympathy for the cub's life were sent from around the world.

Knut became the center of a mass media phenomenon dubbed "Knutmania" that spanned the globe and spawned toys, media specials, DVDs, and books. Because of this, the cub was largely responsible for a significant increase in revenue, estimated at about five million euros, at the Berlin Zoo in 2007. Attendance figures for the year increased by an estimated 30 percent, making it the most profitable year in its 163-year history.

Knut (band)

Knut (Russian word for whip, pronounced cnoot) are a mathcore/sludge metal band from Geneva, Switzerland that formed in 1994. They started by playing in the local underground squat scene, publishing a couple of seven-inch releases as well as their first CD in 1997, titled Leftovers. This early material was put out on Snuff Records, which was run by Roderic and Didier. In 1998, Knut released their first full-length, Bastardiser, which showcased a sharper and more focused aggression, combining heavily distorted guitars, odd-time signatures, use of discordance and repetition, and harsh vocals.

The band started touring Europe and shared the stage with bands like Zeni Geva, The Young Gods, Blockheads, Voivod and Neurosis. The year 1999 would prove crucial for Knut, with tours alongside Converge and Botch, both of whom had released records on the Hydra Head imprint. They brought Knut to the attention of label owners Aaron Turner and Mark Thompson, who quickly decided to reissue Bastardiser in the United States and invited them to tour. In August 2001, Knut completed an extensive trek on US soil opening for Isis, playing alongside Thrones, Converge, Keelhaul, Pelican, Premonitions of War, Anodyne, The Cancer Conspiracy, ending at New York's infamous CBGB club.

Almış

Almış iltäbär (Almysh Elteber, Almish Yiltawar, pronounced [ʌlˈmɯʃ], fl. end of 9th century – beginning of 10th) was the first Muslim ruler (emir) of bulgars.

Almış was a son of Şilki ([ʃilˈki]). He was a ruler of one of the Bulgar duchies. Initially, a vassal of the Khazars, he struggled for independence and unification of all Bulgar tribes and duchies. He sent ambassadors to the Baghdad caliph. In 922, the caliph Al-Muqtadir's ambassador Ibn Fadlan appeared in the Almış' capital. Almış adopted the Islamic name Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbdullah (Latin Tatar: Cäğfär bine Ğabdulla, Arabic script: جعفر ابن عبدالله‎).

It has been thought during dozens of years, that Almış was a ruler of the Volga Bulgars, and that the Baghdad embassy with its secretary Ibn Fadlan reached the Volga Bulgars in the Middle Volga region (currently, Tatarstan territories in Russia). But recently the thorough reconstruction of the embassy itinerary revealed: the Bulgars ruler "capital" was in the village Tri Protoka near the modern city of Astrakhan. Therefore, all Ibn Fadlan account is about Bulgars and people living in the Northern Caspian area and Low Volga region.

Almè

Almè is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) northeast of Milan and about 5 kilometres (3 mi) northwest of Bergamo.

Almè borders the following municipalities: Almenno San Bartolomeo, Almenno San Salvatore, Paladina, Sorisole, Villa d'Almè. Part of Almè's territory is included in the Parco dei Colli di Bergamo, and is crossed by river Quisa.
