KMOL-LD

KMOL-LD is the NBC affiliate in Victoria, Texas. The station is owned by Saga Communications, and operates on UHF digital signal on channel 17.

KMOL-LD programming airs digitally on a subchannel of KAVU-TV, the company's full-power ABC affiliate, and an HDTV feed of KMOL's NBC programming airs on local cable. KMOL-LP has operated since the mid-2000s.

The station is part of a group of television stations in Victoria that are owned by Saga, based out of KAVU-TV. Before KMOL began operations, NBC was seen on another station in the group, KUNU-LP (now a Univision affiliate).

Unlike most NBC affiliates, KMOL-LD does not show any form of local newscast; however, it does produce local news for The Today Show, as well as an evening weather brief.

Mole (unit)

The mole is the unit of measurement in the International System of Units (SI) for amount of substance. It is defined as the amount of a chemical substance that contains as many elementary entities, e.g., atoms, molecules, ions, electrons, or photons, as there are atoms in 12 grams of pure carbon-12 (¹²C), the isotope of carbon with relative atomic mass 12 by definition. This number is expressed by the Avogadro constant, which has a value of 7023602214129000000♠6.02214129(27)×10²³ mol^-1. The mole is one of the base units of the SI, and has the unit symbol mol.

The mole is widely used in chemistry as a convenient way to express amounts of reactants and products of chemical reactions. For example, the chemical equation 2 H₂ + O₂ → 2 H₂O implies that 2 mol of dihydrogen (H₂) and 1 mol of dioxygen (O₂) react to form 2 mol of water (H₂O). The mole may also be used to express the number of atoms, ions, or other elementary entities in a given sample of any substance. The concentration of a solution is commonly expressed by its molarity, defined as the number of moles of the dissolved substance per litre of solution.

WOAI-TV

WOAI-TV, virtual channel 4 (UHF digital channel 48), is an NBC-affiliated television station located in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The station is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, as part of a duopoly with Fox affiliate KABB (channel 29); Sinclair also operates CW affiliate KMYS (channel 35) under a shared services agreement with owner Deerfield Media. All three stations share studio facilities off Loop 410 in northwest San Antonio; WOAI maintains transmitter facilities located off of Route 181 in northwest Wilson County (northeast of Elmendorf).

History

The station first signed on the air on December 11, 1949 as WOAI-TV; it was the first television station to sign on in the San Antonio market. It was owned by Southland Industries along with WOAI radio (1200 AM and 102.3 FM, frequency now occupied by KSAQ). WOAI-TV and WOAI radio are among the few broadcast stations located west of the Mississippi River that utilize a call sign that begins with a "W"; this designation was "grandfathered" when the Federal Communications Commission issued regulations requiring radio stations west of the Mississippi River to be assigned call letters starting with a "K," and stations east of the Mississippi to calls beginning with a "W." The station has been an NBC affiliate since its sign-on, due to WOAI (AM)'s longtime affiliation with the NBC Red Network; however, it originally also carried programming from the three other major networks of the time: CBS, ABC and DuMont. WOAI lost the CBS and DuMont affiliations to KEYL (channel 5, now KENS-TV) when that station signed on in February 1950; the two stations continued to share ABC programming until KONO-TV (channel 12, now KSAT-TV) signed on in January 1957.
