Kix is a free-to-air children's television channel in the United Kingdom, owned by CSC Media Group. As of June 2014, it broadcasts cartoons, action and adventure series, extreme sports and music videos on Sky and Freesat. Its target audience is 7 to 12-year-old boys.

History

The AGB Nielsen Media Research website initially announced that the channel would be called Klix and be put on Sky, however, this was a mistake and the channel is in fact called Kix!. The correction was made with a new document, which stated that all the other details will remain the same as posted in the original article. At 06:00 on 19 May 2008, Pop +1 ceased broadcast and was directly replaced on-air with Kix content. Medabots was the first programme to be broadcast under the Kix! identity.

Kix was the fourth dedicated kids' channel to be launched by CSC: its three sister channels are Pop which was launched on 29 May 2003, and shows cartoons and pop music videos for a mixed audience; Tiny Pop, which was launched on 27 July 2004, and shows cartoons for young children and pre-schoolers; and Pop Girl, launched on 6 August 2007, and also shows cartoons and live action shows but is aimed at a female-led audience. Some programmes which have aired on Kix have been screened on one or more of the sister channels as well.

Kix (band)

Kix is an American hard rock band that achieved popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Band members have continued to tour, including at the Rocklahoma festival in 2008 in Oklahoma and the M3 Rock Festival in May 2011 in the band's home state of Maryland.

History

Early years (1977–1987)

Kix was formed by Ronnie Younkins, Brian Forsythe and Donnie Purnell in December 1977 in Hagerstown, Maryland. In 1981, they released their self-titled debut album, Kix, featuring "Atomic Bombs", "Heartache", "Contrary Mary", "The Itch", and "The Kid". "Love at First Sight" instantly became a concert favorite. "Kix Are for Kids" creatively merged the name of the band with two popular cereals of the 1960s and 1970s, Kix (that featured an atomic bomb commercial) and the Trix Rabbit ("Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!"). "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" became the band's most popular concert song, always with a unique ad-lib performance by lead vocalist Steve Whiteman, of Piedmont, WV. With this album, the tongue-in-cheek rock and roll style of Kix was established.

Kix (cereal)

Kix® (stylized as KiX) is a brand of American cold breakfast cereal introduced in 1937 by the General Mills company of Golden Valley, Minnesota. The product is an extruded, expanded puffed-grain cereal made with whole grain corn.

Products

General Mills introduced Berry Berry Kix in 1992 and Honey Kix in 2009. In Original Kix, total sugars are about 10% by weight, which is about 3 grams of sugar per serving. Honey Kix has 6 grams of sugar, Berry Berry Kix 7 grams.

Production

The grain is processed and expanded (water is added and the corn is pulverized). Cooking of Kix occurs in the extruder, then the dough is formed into the desired shape by extrusion through a die. It was the first cereal to be manufactured using this process.

Experimentation with this puffing process led to other popular brands like Cheerios.

Promotions

In 1947, Kix offered a Lone Ranger atomic bomb ring in exchange for a box top and 15 cents. The ring contained a spinthariscope, so that when the red base (which served as a "secret message compartment") was taken off, and after a period of time for dark adaptation, you could look through a small plastic lens at scintillations caused by polonium alpha particles striking a zinc sulfide screen.

Kix (Asian TV channel)

KIX and KIX HD is a pay television entertainment and sports channel in Asia owned by Celestial Tiger Entertainment and Fox International Channels. The channel is broadcast in Greater China and Southeast Asia as 24/7 action entertainment tailored for Asian audiences and targeted toward the male 18 to 45 demographic. The channel airs a combination of Asian content (notably Korean shows) with Western programs and attracts a core target audience of international viewers skewed toward male viewers.

Programming blocks

The network has acquired licenses to mixed martial arts tournaments and international content including Bellator MMA, Mad Dogs, Top Gear Korea, Ten and Quiz From God. In 2012, KIX secured first and exclusive rights to bring the Lingerie Football League, "America’s fastest growing sports league", to Asia in a multi-year broadcast partnership deal.

Combat Sports

A pillar of MMA combat and fight related tournaments that typically premiere Mondays and Tuesdays at 10PM (HK/SG/PHIL/MYT), 9PM (JKT/THAI) and Saturdays at 7PM (HK/SG/PHIL/MYT) 6PM (JKT/THAI). Programs airing in this block include BAMMA, Bellator MMA, Road FC, Enfusion, SFL, Strikeforce, Glory World Series, M-1 Challenge and Pacific Xtreme Combat.

Kix (album)

Kix is the self-titled debut album by the glam metal band Kix. It was released in 1981 on Atlantic Records.
