KINK

KINK, also kink.fm, is an American commercial broadcast FM radio station in Portland, Oregon. The station began broadcasting Christmas Day, 1968 as “KINK – The Underground Link”. Although KINK’s format has evolved over the years, its sound, philosophy, target audience, marketing, and community involvement have remained fundamentally consistent over its forty year history, a rarity in commercial broadcasting. Many of KINK’s DJs have been associated with the station for decades, also a rarity in the industry. In the vernacular of commercial radio, KINK is known as a “heritage” radio station. Its studios are located in downtown Portland, and its transmitter is in Portland's west hills.

KINK plays a wide variety of music, including adult album alternative, rock, acoustic, folk, pop, blues, reggae and new age. KINK's format also features many special programs, some of which have been in place for many years. These include Lights Out(canceled), a late night program of mellow instrumental music that began in 1973, the Sunday Night Blues Room, Sunday Acoustic KINK, and Tranceformation, a weekly selection of trance and chill music. KINK showcases emerging artists from the Portland, Oregon area with its nightly Local Music Spotlight feature, as well as independent or unsigned artists with its nightly feature The Gamut.

Kink FM

Kink FM described itself as the only commercial radio station in the Netherlands dedicated entirely to alternative music.

In 1992 Dutch radio station RTL Radio started broadcasting. After this station failed to be a success, its format and name was first changed to RTL Rockradio, then to Happy RTL and back to RTL Rockradio. In 1995, the name was changed to Kink FM and the ownership split 50-50 between RTL and Veronica. In 1996, RTL gave up on the cable station and sold its remaining rights to Veronica which is still the owner. From the start Kink FM had to fight for its existence.

Kink FM was available in the Netherlands by cable, in Europe by satellite and in the rest of the world through the internet. It was also on iTunes's list of radio streams and via an iPhone app.

In October 2005 Kink FM celebrated its tenth anniversary. The station's 12.5 anniversary was celebrated by organising a radio takeover. Several well-known Dutch artists such as Junkie XL, The Nits, GEM, Voicst and Rick de Leeuw (formerly of Tröckener Kecks) presented an hour-long radio show filled with the music of their choice.

Kink is a 2013 American documentary, produced by James Franco about the BDSM website Kink.com.

Early production

While filming scenes of About Cherry at the Kink.com San Francisco Armory, Franco noticed the dynamic between actors and the production crew. He stated that this interested him, as in some respects, it was a similar dynamic to that of the production at Saturday Night Live. It was this that led to Franco developing an interest in this aspect of the BDSM culture. After coaxing director Christina Voros to an interview at the Armory, she agreed to do the film. The other reported influence for Franco's decision to make this documentary, was an unsuccessful sex tape, with his girlfriend.

KinK

KinK was a Canadian documentary television series, which first aired in 2001 on Showcase. The series profiled some of the more unusual edges of human sexuality, primarily the kink and fetish scenes. It was filmed in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg; the fifth season, set in Halifax, Nova Scotia, first aired in September 2006. KinK was produced by Vancouver's Paperny Films.

Concept

This series highlights different people's real-life kinks, as defined by the person being observed. Each episode takes an in-depth look at the lifestyles of two or three people (or couples), and how their kink affects their life. Each season of the show follows these couples as they learn and progress through the lifestyle.
