Kingdom (2014 TV series)

Kingdom (previously titled Navy St.) is an American drama television series created by Byron Balasco. The series premiered on October 8, 2014 on the Audience Network. It stars Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, Matt Lauria, Jonathan Tucker, Nick Jonas with Joanna Going. Season one consists of ten episodes.

On October 17, 2014, DirecTV announced that the series was renewed for an additional 20 episodes, 10 scheduled to air in fall 2015 and 10 to air in 2016.

The first episode of the 10 episode second season premiered on October 14, 2015.

Summary

Alvey Kulina (Frank Grillo) owns and runs a mixed martial arts gym called Navy St. Gym in Venice, California, with his girlfriend, Lisa (Kiele Sanchez). He helps people workout and trains fighters along with his sons, Nate (Nick Jonas) and Jay (Jonathan Tucker). Jay has a drug and alcohol problem, but puts it aside to start fighting again. Ryan Wheeler (Matt Lauria) used to be a great fighter until he was sent to prison after a few mistakes in his life. After Ryan's release, Alvey wants him to fight again and use Alvey as a trainer as it would be good publicity for the gym. Lisa is initially opposed to this, as she and Ryan used to be engaged, but eventually accepts it for the sake of the gym. Alvey's estranged wife, Christina, is a drug addict and prostitute, with sporadic contact with Kulina and her sons.

Kingdom (professional wrestling)

Kingdom, was a professional wrestling company in Japan from 1997 to 1998. It was essentially a continuation of UWF International, having most of its former roster: Nobuhiko Takada, Yoji Anjo, Kazushi Sakuraba, Daijiro Matsui, Naoki Sano, Masahito Kakihara, Yoshihiro Takayama, Kenichi Yamamoto and Hiromitsu Kanehara.

History

Kingdom did not draw the huge crowds UWF International did in its heyday, and most of its major cards were at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, which could seat 2,000 fans on average. Kingdom attempted to rectify this by inviting talent from other promotions, including Battlarts, but it did not have much effect. In the eyes of the Japanese fans the era of shoot-style wrestling was invalid.

Kingdom went out of business in March 1998. Takada, who had given up on the concept in mid-1997 and began competing for the PRIDE martial arts circuit, Sano, Matsui, and Sakuraba formed Takada Dojo, a stable associated with PRIDE; Yamamoto and Kanehara jumped to RINGS; Kakihara and Takayama joined All Japan Pro Wrestling as free agents; and Anjo dabbled in the K-1 kickboxing circuit, slipping into obscurity due to his bad record and later reappearing in All Japan Pro Wrestling and Dream Stage Entertainment's HUSTLE pro wrestling organization as "Commander ANJOE".

Splash! (UK TV series)

Splash! is a British television series that follows celebrities as they try to master the art of diving. The celebrities perform each week in front of a panel of judges and a live audience in an Olympic-size diving pool with the result each week partly determined by public vote. Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay present the show, whilst Team GB Olympic Bronze Medal winning diver Tom Daley is the expert mentor to the celebrities. It is filmed at the Inspire: Luton Sports Village, which is based in Stopsley, Luton. The show premiered on ITV on 5 January 2013 winning the ratings battle for its 7.15pm-8.15pm slot with an average audience of 5.6 million viewers, a network share of 23.6%, however, it was cancelled on 15 February 2014 after just two series.

The format for the show originated from the Celebrity Splash! franchise created by television production company Eyeworks in the Netherlands, and was broadcast on SBS 6 as Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag (Celebrities Jumping On Saturday).

Splash! (B'z song)

"Splash!" is the forty-second single by B'z, released on June 7, 2006. This song is one of B'z many number-one singles in Oricon charts. Splash! was re-recorded in 2012 with English lyrics and released as part of the band's iTunes-exclusive English album

Celebrity Splash!

Celebrity Splash! is a reality television franchise created by Dutch company Eyeworks, started from their Dutch reality show Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag which premièred in 2012. The franchise involves celebrities diving into the pool.

Format

Origins and history

Splash has its origin and idea from German Olympic-themed variety TV show TV total Turmspringen (TV total Diving), it was first aired on 16 December 2004, in the TV total show, on ProSieben and was founded by Stefan Raab and hosted by Sonya Kraus. Other hosts/reporters include Ingolf Lück (2004), Kai Pflaume (2005), Oliver Welke and Matthias Opdenhövel (2007, 09), Steven Gätjen (2011–12) and Olaf Schubert (2011–12 reporter).

It has been held every year since, with the exception of 2006. The eighth competition was on 24 November 2012 re-fought at the Olympic Pool, Munich.

The idea for the German show has been adopted by US network FOX and aired as a two-hour special, renamed Stars in Danger: The High Dive, on 9 January 2013. Fox's rival show is the American version of Splash, which airs on ABC since March 2013.
