Kill Kill

Kill Kill is the first extended play (EP) by American singer and songwriter Lana Del Rey. It was released on October 21, 2008 in the United States through 5 Points Records under Del Rey's real name, Lizzy Grant. The three songs on the EP would later be included on the 2010 album Lana Del Ray. "Yayo" would later be re-recorded and released a third time, on the "Paradise Edition" of Del Rey's 2012 album Born to Die. "Kill Kill" was the EP's only single. A music video accompanied the track and was published in 2008.

Background and composition

The title track, "Kill Kill", was originally titled "The Ocean"; however, the title changed after a record producer dismissed the name as "boring". In frustration, Lana crossed out "The Ocean" above the lyrics, and wrote "Kill Kill" in place of a title.

In an interview, Del Rey called the EP's genre "Hawaiian glam metal". Artists that influenced the EP's sound include Elvis, Poison, and Van Halen.Songwriter David Nichtern revealed to MTV that Kill Kill was a way for Del Rey and her team to generate some buzz before releasing a fully produced studio album. He also called the title track "a very good song".

Background

"Kill Kill" was recorded sometime during 2008 in a studio located at 12 West, 37th Street, 4th Floor, New York City. The song was recorded during the same time that the rest of her album had been recorded.

Composition

The lyrics of "Kill Kill" were written by Grant while the production was handled by David Khane. The song speaks about a relationship where Del Rey is "in love with a dying man". The original titled for the song was "The Ocean", but the producer of the song, Khane, found that titled boring and told Grant to change it. Grant, while angry crossed out the title with x's and wrote "kill kill". That title soon became the name of the song and later her debut EP.

Synopsis

Tatsuya Nakadai stars as Genta, a former samurai who became disillusioned with the samurai lifestyle and left it behind to become a wandering yakuza (gang) member. He meets Hanjirō Tabata (Etsushi Takahashi) a farmer who wants to become a samurai to escape his powerless existence. Genta and Tabata wind up on opposite sides of clan intrigue when seven members of a local clan assassinate their chancellor. Although the seven, led by Tetsutarō Oikawa (Naoko Kubo) rebelled with the support of their superior, Ayuzawa (Shigeru Kōyama), he turns on them and sends members of the clan to kill them as outlaws.

Kill (Mell song)

KILL is the 4th single of I've Sound singer, Mell. It is released on November 19, 2008, a year and almost two months after the release of her 3rd single. The title track will be used as the opening theme for Mamoru Oshii's live-action film entitled KILL (斬～KILL～, Kiru～KILL～) while the B-side song On my own will be used as the ending theme for the same film. Since this single only reached #37 in the Oricon weekly charts and only charted for two weeks, this is Mell's weakest single to date.

The single will come in a regular CD-only edition (GNCV-0012) and a limited CD+DVD edition (GNCV-0011) which will contain the PV for KILL.
